Zahler Buffered C Powder, Vitamin C Powder with Buffering Minerals, Kosher, 11OZ...

I got this berry-flavored vitamin C drink mix for my husband, who thrives on lots of vitamin C but has trouble with its acidity. It irritates his stomach. He normally takes buffered C and this buffered mix seemed a very good way to get large doses into his system. It works fine. He adds a scoop to a bottle of water (16.9 oz) and for him, that's just right. I tried it and preferred the flavor a little stronger, so I drank off a big swallow before mixing the powder in. The berry flavor is mild and pleasant. We drink a lot of Crystal Light drink mixes in bottles of water and this is a lot like that. The price is reasonable, the C doesn't irritate, and it tastes good. This is a keeper.

I usually do not take buffered vit C as it does not redox from what I know, meaning it peaks once, not multiple times like ascrobic does. But this one is interesting. I don't understand how you get ascorbic acid, the UNbuffered form, from three ascorbates, calcium, magnesium and potassium, buffered forms. Here is why this is important. There is a very fast transport system from the stomach directly into the bloodstream for Vit C, bypassing the intestinal system all together. To activate it, one simply needs a large dose of Vit C (a dose of this product qualifies) AND a slightly acidic environment (which can be assured with a little lemon or lime water). Once that is acheived, here is what has been found: Ascorbic acid peaks multiple times in the blood before it runs out. Ascorbate peaks only once. This means one gets more bang for their buck with ascorbic acid. However, a high dose of ascorbate is very useful, less chance of GI upset. And with this, one also gets calcium, magnesium and potassium. The potassium is very low dose, but I find just a little extra in supplemental form helps improve intestinal motility for me. So I can kill 2 birds with one stone. The labeling is confusing to me since it claims the Vit C is ascorbic acid (aa), which, by definition, is not the buffered form. Yet it advertises this as buffered. From what I can find, aa with these 3 ascorbates is supposed to result in a special form of aa. Does it redox too? I have no idea. Maybe the buffering nullifies the conditions necessary for the activation of the fast transport system from the stomach, and this Vit C continues into the intestines. This is easy to mix and take, but is over 4 times the cost of plain ascorbic acid powder. It will take time to see if the results are the same as taking ascorbic acid my usual way, but this will be good for those looking for a buffered Vit C..

Good vitamin C powder, it has a nice berry flavor, I just added 1 scoop to a 16.9 fl oz bottle of water, which made a nice pleasant taste that's not too strong, the powder took a few shakes for it to fully dissolve and makes the water a pink color, the first time taking this powder did cause a bit of bloating, but later I tried it again with food, and it agreed fine, so I definitely recommend taking it with food. The ingredients are great in this powder and provides a good dose of vitamin C (2350 mg), Calcium (350 mg), Magnesium (350 mg), and potassium (99 mg), and it is naturally sweetened with stevia, the serving size is just 1 scoop daily, I recommend cutting it in half then slowly work up to 1 scoop. Overall I recommend, great way to take vitamin C, add to water or smoothies, tastes great and works well, provides around 42 servings per container and includes a scoop. Made in USA.

This is the FIRST time Ive ever been able to take a vitamin C supplement without getting an upset tummy. For years I steered clear of vitamin C as I would get awful digestive issues and it wasnt fun. I decided to give the Zahler powder a try and am over the moon pleased with the results! Not only is it easy to digest, its easy to mix and easy to drink. Ive been having it daily since it arrived and havent had a single issue, all positives here and Ill continue to order this once I run out! Highly recommend to others who have a hard time with capsules, this buffered powder is the answer! 5 stars

A scoop of this powder provides a high dose of vitamin C, along with magnesium, a bit of calcium and potassium. Other ingredients include inulin natural flavors, Stevia, and beet root powder. The expiration date on the canister I got is two years in the future. Note that the reviews on this page currently refer to two different products. I am reviewing the powder one, which you stir into liquid. The taste is mild and reminds me of fruit punch. It burned my tongue a bit, probably because I am sensitive to certain fruits. I took an allergy medicine after taking this, just in case. I only took a partial scoop of this product because I like to err on the side of caution. Ill probably give this away or throw it out, but thats just me. I definitely advise starting with half a scoop or less. Some people get digestive symptoms from high doses of vitamin C, and since this also has inulin in it, that increases the chances of cramping or diarrhea. It is worth mentioning that some womens books say to avoid high doses of vitamin C while pregnant because cramping is not a good idea. Its nice that this is made in USA. The canister is plastic.
