I installed it with a 128GB SD card to replace a hard drive in a Power Macintosh G4. It works great, no configuration needed (cable select worked fine) and is very snappy/fast compared to the old hard drive. Very happy!

I was able to use this to install Mac os 9 on an iMac G3. At one point the card must have bumped the chassis and came unlocked. The install menus were really weird, as if the reported disk size caused a buffer overflow. After reseating the card and rebooting things were fine. Note that it's not really faster than a hard drive due to IDE bandwidth constraints. Seems to be in IDE master mode.

I bought this to revive an old Packard Bell Pack-Mate 386X. The short of it is that this thing does exactly what it's supposed to and I was able to get it to work, with no issues on the i3, and with some additional software on the 386SX. I want to tell the tale in-case it can be of help to someone banging their head up against a wall trying to get this going on an older system. I waded through fdisk more times than I could count and was getting seemingly random read and write failures and found I couldn't boot from the SD card. I actually tossed this adapter aside and found an IDE hard drive in a closet. I came back to it, though, and I'm glad I did. What was going wrong? Well, in the midst of all the troubleshooting, I had found a disk utility called OnTrack that was purported to help with problems like this. When I first bought the adapter, knowing about BIOS limitations, I thought I'd be smart and get a smaller SD Card. I was working with a 504 MB limitation, so I had to go down the next step to 256 MB. Well, with the version of OnTrack I was using, it saw this small drive and didn't give me the option of installing the drive overlay. I had decided to switch SD cards to see if there was a problem there and ended up tossing in a 32 GB card. Ontrack noticed the size and installed the overlay. I booted to the SD card with no issue and OnTrack prompted me for the DOS setup disks. That installed with no problem and here I was using the SD card. I've been installing like crazy for a couple days now and knew I had to drop in and write a review. The adapter works wonderfully, and even in a system from 1989. If you want to emulate a hard drive, you won't go wrong buying this product.

I am running this on a MSI G41M-P25 motherboard with a 128G SD card instead of a mechanical Hard Drive. It requires just the IDE ribbon cable and a either a 4 pin Molex or floppy drive power plug. The BIOS on the motherboard had no problem recognizing the SD card although I have heard that this may be a problem on early motherboards. It boots quickly and it is an improvement when you consider that the computer the motherboard was originally installed in had only a 80G hard Drive. The drawback is this is just a card. You will have to figure how to mount it and if you want to be able to remove the SD card from outside a computer case, that will take more effort. I used a common 2.5 to 3.5 drive tray and had to drill holes in the tray for standoffs to mount the card.

I used this to replace the IDE HDD for my Windows 98/DOS retro PC. At first I was very skeptical of using an SD card for a W98/DOS installation, but it has been a flawless process. This thing is so incredibly useful, I love it! I ended up buying a second one to store things to as well.
