Beadalon Silk Thread, Size F / .014 in, Black, 0.5 oz, 420 ft...

I hand-knot my beaded necklaces, and I usually use waxed cotton or the like, but really wanted some silk for more delicate/upscale pieces. This spool fits the need perfectly, and has plenty on the spool - much nicer than those little cardboard bobbins of silk thread I used to use!

I love getting Beadalon products because they are very a reputable company and Ive been beading with their products for many years. I already have this 100% silk thread in white but wanted to pick it up in black as well. I do different types of bead knotting necklaces and bracelets with the Beadalon knotting tool and this 100% silk thread works extremely well.

Silk thread of different sizes and colors is important to have in your beading choices. Good thing different sizes are good to have because I received a size B not D in this silk thread. This silk thread is smooth and strong. Beadalon is a tried and true brand for beaders. As the description states silk thread is good to get a nice drape and it's strong. Tip: moisten a paper towel lightly and run it along the amount of thread you are going to use and "stretch" the silk thread. If this is skipped you will find the item you made will loosen up and thread may show. So, pre-stretch :)

I have sensitive skin and when I attach beads or other decoration to clothing, the thead rubs and irritates. I've been using cotton thread, which softens after several washings, and decided to see if silk is kinder to my skin. It is! I'll still use cotton fabric to back any decorations on my clothing, but now the seams won't leave pink lines on my skin after a day of wearing. I'm very happy to discover this thread.

I purchased this product to use with my Hardanger embroidery and also to string jewelry but I think it is a bit fine for that and I'll need a heavier gauge. At any rate it is a good brand and high quality for the hand work; it will look great outlining needlework designs on the 24 count canvas.
