I am in IT and have used Benfei products before and never had a failure. This USB C to gigabit adapter doesn't disappoint. It was tested on 2 different laptops and was recognized immediately, and went off wifi to LAN when the ethernet cable was attached. I didn't do any benchmarking, but when connected to a gigabit internet connection, it's was able to speedtest at 850+ Mbps sustained both up and down. The cable is braided, the USB C end and the ethernet connector end are both metal and the unit can accept a USB C PD (power) input to allow the user to connect their power connector and this device at the same time for charging. The Lan connector has led's so you can see both the network and activity on the adapter. The unit has a solid feel to it and at this price point is a good choice if you need LAN capability on a laptop without an ethernet port.

I got this so that I could use Ethernet tethering on my Android phone. I also tested it on my newer Dell laptop running Windows 11. In both cases it worked perfectly, it was recognized without having to install drivers or anything. I also like how it has a passthrough USB port to allow charging, that's helpful for longer-term use. Overall, it's a great little device.

Most devices only have one USB-C port. I love that this has the passthrough so I can charge at the same time. I tested on my desktop and 2 laptops, and it works on all my devices. Other reviewers have already gone through the bench tests, so I will just say, I have not noticed any difference from using this vs. my integrated adapter. I will update if I find any flaws, but so far, I have found none.

With most laptops not coming with an ethernet port anymore, it is always good to have an ethernet adapter on hand in order to have the ability to get a hard wired network connection. Once I connected this adapter to my laptop, Windows 10 installed the necessary drivers, and it was showing up as a "Realtek USB GbE Family Controller" adapter. I got gigabit speeds using the adapter and was able to perform a backup of my laptop much faster than via my WiFi connection. The adapter lights help to give a clear indication of when you have a connection once a network cable is attached. My laptop has a sufficient number of USB-C ports, but I like the fact that the adapter comes with a USB-C PD port for any circumstances that I use the adapter and need an additional port for charging the device. This is certainly an item I will keep in my laptop travel bag and is a good value for the cost.

Revised Review After reading other reviews, I decided to try again with this adapter. I changed the score from 2 stars to 4, based on my new tests. The final star that did not come back is because adapters should be plug-and-play and I shouldn't have to read reviews to try and figure out why it isn't working. Some of the reviews stated that they had to wait for 20 seconds or so for the status to change on the phone. Others said you may have to turn the USB-C plug the other way for it to work. So, I tested it on my computer first. This time, I plugged my power cable into the adapter first, watched what direction I put the USB C into the computer (which was with the name side down on the big part of the adapter), and then plugged in the Ethernet cable. Within a short while, my battery showed that it was charging and the Ethernet came back on (had been on before I unplugged my docking station to do the test). I then decided to be brave (or maybe stupid), and I tried the phone, but this time, with the same side down, I plugged the USB-C into the phone, then the power cord I typically use for charging, then the Ethernet. After a very short wait, I received a fast-charging notification. The same power plug and cable give me super-fast charging without the adapter. Additionally, after a longer wait, a notification for Ethernet setup popped up and I was able to turn off my WiFi and data and use the Ethernet connection. The speed seemed slower than my Ethernet connections on my computers, but I don't know how to run a speed test on Android, so I can't say for sure. Original Review The Ethernet port works on my computer, but not my phone. The problem may be with my Samsung S23+ according to some articles I read, but I'm not sure. I tried the power-in port with 3 devices and it didn't work with any of them. To make things even worse, but phone stopped charging with any cable until I rebooted it. This scared me enough that I didn't run any more tests. I'll still use the Ethernet feature on my laptop, but I won't try it on phones or tablets anymore.
