We had a problem with birds trying to nest at the end of our gutter where the downspout is attached. There is an overhang of another section of our house at that location which makes nice comfy spot for nesting. Two sets of spike strips were our solution. They fit side-by-side inside our gutter and effectively stop the birds from setting up home. The spike strips are easy to assemble. I had no trouble inserting the stainless-steel spikes into the base. A slight bend and they snap into place. They are not pointed so they shouldnt harm any animal/bird they come in contact with. The set comes with everything you might need for ten 13-inch spike strips. Cable ties, screws and wall anchors are also included to help with final installation.

I got this as a deterrent from a couple of animals. I used it on a wood pole that has bird houses on it. I screwed them onto the pole to keep squirrels and cats off the pole. Mostly cats though! The neighbors allow their cats to roam the neighborhood and the cats like to think that our bird sanctuary is a feeding ground. I've seen cats try to climb up the pole and stop when they reach the spikes. I've also seen cats try to jump over but the spikes prevent them from jumping over them. These spikes have worked great as a cat deterrent!

I installed them on the windowsills of the chicken coop to keep the birds off of the ledge. It may be worth wearing gloves during assembly, as the components are covered in gunk from the manufacturing process. My hands were black after I assembled them all. It comes with cheap mounting hardware, which was fine for my application. If I were installing it in a place where I expected more bird traffic, I'd upgrade to better hardware.

Before you can mount these bird spikes, you need to install the wires ("thorns") into the base plates. Easy-peasy. Except that these thorns are formed from brittle stainless steel, and were evidently formed without sufficient heat. I was exceedingly careful with them, but nearly a THIRD of them still snapped off at the bend during insertion! Luckily, I needed to cover only 5 linear feet with spikes, otherwise I would've been out of luck. Manufacturer, either do a better job forming the thorns, or include at least two extra packs of them in each box.

I've previously used bird spikes and was able to install them straight from the box. However, I overlooked the product description stating that assembly was required, involving the insertion of metal spikes into their bases before installation. Upon opening the package, I was surprised to find that I needed to manually insert each spike. With 20 spikes per bag and 10 bases, this meant assembling 200 spikes individually, which was time-consuming but not difficult. Once assembled, the spikes were easy to install using either the provided screws or zip ties. The bases are flexible and can be cut to fit various needs, and both spikes and bases are made of stainless steel, suitable for outdoor use and presumably weatherproof. They are effective at deterring birds. While I appreciate the product, pre-assembled spikes would be more convenient, and I would be willing to pay extra to save the time of doing it myself.
