These sheets are very sticky. They can remove the finish on some surfaces. The sheet does stop cats from scratching because cats don't like the sticky feeling on their paws.

This stuff is plenty sturdy and durable. It sticks very well on a smooth horizontal surface like low-pile carpet or upholstery. On other surfaces you can use the upholstery tacks included to help keep it in place. It is stiff enough that it does not lay flat on curved surfaces like the arm of a couch. The important thing is that if you don't want this to be permanent, you need to find an object with a surface that the cat likes even better to scratch on and use the time to train him (use treats) to use it. Also, location is key. Cats naturally want to scratch things that stick out into the room or walkways. Put your object there at first and when he is using it well, gradually move it to a more acceptable long-term location, like a corner or wall. We tried all kinds of scratching posts and pads and finally realized that our cat greatly prefers a thick cotton bathroom mat or towel. So we just gave up and found one that doesn't look too bad in our living room! If you have any trouble getting it off when the time comes, USE A HOT HAIR DRYER pointed onto the sticky edge as you pull it up, and you will have no trouble, no residue on your furniture.

I got a new chair and my newest cat likes to scratch the new chair, go figure. Anyways, I reviewed options on how to keep him away, without hurting him, and these big sticky sheets seemed like the way to go. They advertised good sticking, big, shipped flat, etc. They do stick well, are large sized, and shipped flat as advertised. My The sheets were easy to apply and are barely noticeable. The cat hates the feel and immediately stopped scratching the furniture. I expect the sheets will eventually get covered with floating hair etc. but for now they are doing the job. Only downside is now I sometimes stick to the chair. LOL. I also got a flat scratching pad and put nip on it for kitty to use along with his upright post.
