This knife is exactly what I needed. My son has started wanting to do models and this knife is working well to cut the pieces out of the plastic. I appreciate that it has a cover to protect it when not in use and comes with so many extra blades. The handle is a good size and allows you to grip it like a pencil to make fine cuts.

X-Acto is a familiar name. And, while this tool, and the included blades, carry a different brand name, they appear to be nearly identical to the familiar brand's product. With the exception of the knurled, black handle (compared to my smooth, silver handled tools), the blades and attachments look extremely similar. But, looks aren't everything: With each brand's similar pointed blades in the tools, the newer one weighed 0.29 ounces compared to the original tool's weight of 0.55 ounces. That is very nearly a 2 to 1 ratio. The old-school tool is about 1/4" longer. Their diameters are the same, however. One point of real concern is the thickness of the blades: The old school blade is a solid 0.019" thick. However, the pointed blade from this kit measured 0.15" thick. Yes, a thinner blade can be an advantage in some cases. However, 20% thinner is 20% thinner and 47% lighter is . . . Well, you get the picture. They may look alike but their heft and robustness are not the same. The newer tool may do the job but it is clearly different. And, if you're accustomed to the weight and feel of an original tool, this one is going to have the same feel. It would have been easy to match the weight. It would also have been better. A quarter-ounce of aluminum is worth about 2 cents.

This has 3 handles (what I wanted) and spare blades (which are a plus) along with some printouts of some designs with some tracing paper I think you trace the designs with to cut up? I use different kinds of blades while working on 3d prints and other things, so I am always looking for one blade or another, I also have 2 places I use them at so never seem to have enough. I just wanted some extra blade handles so I would have more laying around in the places I use them. So, I have original Xacto handles, and a few blades, and thought I'd compare the two. The Xacto is a bit heavier (probably more aluminum in the handle) a little bit longer, and also costs more. The handles in this set are cheaper, but they hold the blade firmly and fit my needs. I haven't used the blades extensively, but they are a little smaller and probably not as good as the higher priced ones, but will work for a little while, and probably well for the purposes I expect to use them for, more so on things that I tend to break the tips on quite often.
