This two-piece set of grooming tools from NKIAH includes an undercoat rake and a slicker brush. The slicker brush has a convenient button that, when pressed, pops out an oval of loosened hair. I have a Persian cat from the animal shelter. She was found abandoned in a field and appeared to have never been groomed. Although she is still not a fan of being brushed, she will sit for a grooming session with these tools. The undercoat rake helps to thin out her bushy tail. I don't use it as often on her body, as her hair is still growing back after being professionally shaved. She likes the slicker brush a lot more. I also have a short-haired rescue cat who cannot stand to see the Persian get so much attention. He will barge in to get his hair combed, too. He LOVES the slicker brush. If I stop brushing him, he will press his head against it to remind me to brush him some more. He is probably the most groomed short-haired cat anywhere! It is also a little fun for me to fill up the slicker brush with loose hair and pop out the oval.

This is a nice combo set of a deep shedding rake and a fine slicker brush. The shedding rake has two levels of brushing: a coarse set, with the teeth spaced more broadly, and a fine set, with teeth closely packed together to grab more fur. If your dog is matted or dirty, start with the coarse side and brush everything out enough to let the fine side get in to the coat, then do a deeper brushing with the fine side. After you've dethatched the coat of its sheddings and mats, and any debris or mud that might have been there at first, then the coat is ready for the slicker brush. I love the new self-cleaning heads on slicker brushes! They make grooming so much simpler, when one hand is holding the dog steady while the other hand does the brushing. This particular slicker brush has a nice wide brush head that is appropriate for medium and large breeds (it could work on a smaller dog but it's probably overkill). The offset handle is fascinating! I like it--you can brush all along the dog's body without dragging your hand through the coat. The lever for activating the self-cleaning pad is in the handle where your fingers rest, very easy to use, rather than on the back of the brush head like most. Very convenient. I also love that it came with a hanging loop already installed on the handle, so I can keep the brush on a hook by the door.

This brush makes Jake smile! It does a great job of getting deeply into his fur, but doesn't damage his skin. The bonus is the pushbutton cleaning - it pushes the little platform up past the end of the brush tines, and takes all the fur off - a clean brush! I just pick up the brush to show Jake, and he comes trotting over for a brushing session (see attached photo - Jake smiling while brushing him) The shedding comb (a separate metal-tined comb in the listing) is pretty cool. It has 2 sides, a coarse (wider tines) and a finer (closer tines) side. I find the coarse side works the best for Jake's fur. It really does a wonderful job of loosening his undercoat - one of the best for a shedding comb. There is one negative about it - it seems to impart a strong static charge to the fur on the tines, and if I don't clean it at the end of every stroke, the fur on the tines flies off the comb. This is a minor problem, though, and I can use the brush to clean up afterwards. It really is impressive how much fur this comb can clean out of his coat!

I ordered this brush set to replace a brush that we use on our Golden Retriever. She is just a shedding machine and the old brush had some bent tines that seemed to be scratching her. This was making it hard to have her sit still for very long to brush her. The new set I had really ordered just for the brush and wasn't sure how much we would use the undercoat rake. It turns out that rake is a really great! For starters it brushes out a ton of her coat really quickly and she actually enjoys how it feels. She just sat there while she was being brushed and even laid down and let us brush her belly without any prompting. Also before when we would go to brush her tail, she would automatically tuck it under, but not any more. She even enjoyed that part of the brushing. Needless to say we were already sold with just using the rake, so the regular brush was just a bonus. It also works well and it seems more comfortable for the dog. I think it's the little plastic beads on the end of the tines that makes the difference. Also the push button cleaning is pretty trick, as it pushes out the tuft of hair that's been collected versus having to peel it off of the brush. This set is definitely a great upgrade when what we had been using and has made brushing the dog so much easier.

I have a tabby with medium-length fur and the brush seems to work decently well. I think the Furminator does a better job of pulling out dead fur, but this is gentler and much cheaper. The bristles feel like they may eventually get a little bent out of shape, which could impact the release lever working correctly, but so far so good. Speaking of, the release lever works well and definitely helps to speed up the process. I haven't gotten to do much with the rake tool yet, but it feels sturdy enough to get out tangles. It won't grab much loose fur, though. Stick with the brush for general maintenance.
