This is no where sticky enough to hold flys. Wanted something a little more contained than the regular fly paper but at least that seems to have a 50/50 success rate.

I live in ranch country, so basically out in the middle of what was formerly grazing land for cattle. One downside of this rural lifestyle is that we get a fair number of pests that don't like us being in their living space. Rattlesnakes, mice, and flies are the main three that drive me crazy. Obviously, this review is addressing that last one. Pretty sure these fly sticks won't do much for mice or snakes. I've tried all kinds of things to get rid of flies, as they get so annoying every summer especially. Flypaper strips seem to always blow somewhere I don't want them, sticking to curtains or kids. I had mastered a couple spots where I could hang one that wouldn't be a total nuisance (the laundry room), but still. Just yuck. They always look awful, and no matter what they end up on something. Paying kids a nickel per fly they swatted was possible when kids were little. Along those lines, making a deal with myself that every time I went into the kitchen I had to kill at least five flies did help cut down the population. Or putting Irish Spring soap, or hanging bags of water... nothing really seems to truly do the trick. The unsightly, stick mess of flypaper did the best job. But then I found fly stick traps. Oh, my. They are still a bit unsightly, but they are so much easier to work with. You can pull them out and get them in place without them sticking to absolutely everything, yourself included. There is a little plastic hanging loop at the top, which I tend to hang from a lamp. And all kinds of insects end up stuck on it. Mostly flies, but this is also great for moths, fruit flies, and all those little gnat-like things that seem to appear periodically. Disposing of it is easy too. Grab the hanging loop and drop it in the trash. The top and bottom "covers" protect your stuff if you do end up with the trap blowing around a little. They create a little buffer zone. Somewhere I read the suggestion to put some honey or syrup into the bottom buffer cover. I did try that, but I can't say that the trap seems any more effective that way. I still have flies buzzing around me and making me crazy, so this isn't a total miracle cure. But there are absolutely fewer of them. This is my favorite fly solution.

This type of trap for flies works very well. The design either as hanging strips, cylindrical like this one, or dish were proven to be very effective for many, many years. The dish at the bottom indicates that the design is targeted to flies. Theyll go for something sweet, like sugar water or honey if placed there. The sticky exterior is super sticky. Well aware first hand since when I tried to take the one unit out, I grabbed the sticky part. The stickiness stayed on my fingers even after many washes, and the prints stayed on the cylinder. BTW, the package arrived intact and both units were intact as well. All good there. We hanged it high, and put it on the table. We got few flies, but our real issue, and the reason to buy this unit was for mosquitoes. I didnt see any evidence that those got caught by these traps. In addition, as far as I know mosquitoes are attracted a bit to blue light and mainly to specific human scent. Im not sure why the package says Flies, but a small white sticker, and verbiage on the product page adds mosquitoes. I doubt that very much.

I know this is on us, but we left one of these outside after a dinner party on a countertop. Well guess what it looks like to a little kid? Halloween decorations, and sure enough our 3 year old got up there and grabbed the sticky part. What a nightmare. Half hour of dishsoap and rubbing alcohol later, we're back to normal, but that was scary. Now what you're all wondering... Does it work? Yes and no. Yes, with honey in the trap it attracted and caught a handful of flies. No, our dinner party was still fly city and if I could reverse time I would have got either citronella or the zapper lamps going. So who's this good for? I would say if you have fruit flies inside and you can put this well above an area where kids or pets can reach - this is for you. Hope this helps!
