I got this head to make an easy-carry desktop tripod for travel, and it only took a couple of easily obtainable parts. Part list in addition to the head: 1/2 inch screw with a 1/4 inch thread 1 washer 1 plastic soda bottle lid I attached the soda bottle lid to the bottom of the tripod head. I then screwed it onto a plastic bottle filled with water. It doesn't need to be a soda bottle as I demonstrated in the photo. The size of the cap is pretty universal, so you only need to carry the tripod head and cap assembly. The tripod head is solidly built and the tightening screws work well.

The dual cold shoe not only goes into the bottom but can be attached to the panoramic base adjustment knob since it has a quarter hole. This can allow for some creative positioning depending on the use case. The ball headad allows the head to go to a perpendicular 90-degree tilt using the ball head angle adjustment knob. This is extremely useful if you want to point the camera or light straight down for overhead-type work. The ball head itself is not dampened but that shouldn't be an issue in typical use cases. That does mean carefully checking the position and locking tight with the head angle knob. One has to be mindful of the 4.4 lb payload limit and I wouldn't want to push too close to the due to potential creep. That does mean certain camera lens combinations may bring it near or over payload so it's best for mirrorless cameras with lighter lenses. Otherwise, this is an extremely well-built and highly lighter payload ballhead at a very good value.

I set up my 11 pound crossbow with a monopod. I used a mount and then this swivel head screwed into that. I am amazed at the holding strength of this swivel. Once locked down.... it won't move or if it does.... it's very little and due to me not cinching it down. For what it's worth..... it looks good to. Has a pro appearance and works like a pro too. Highly Recommended.

Although the packaging states that it is constructed from "Aluminum + Plastic," based on my observations, it appears to be predominantly composed of aluminum, around 97%. This robust construction ensures its longevity. Additionally, it boasts a thick and durable powder coating (note: the nicks and scratches in the coating, visible in some of my photos, I deliberately made to determine the underlying materials). The indexing is sharp, legible, and sufficiently accurate for casual use, despite being indexed in 5-degree increments, a design choice likely dictated by its compact size. I encountered no problems when mounting most of my SLRs, DSLRs, or other related equipment on it. The sturdy azimuth and pan knobs are well-placed, making it easy to operate. The tall design is particularly appreciated, as it provides space for your fingers to manipulate the knobs without accidentally hitting the camera, tripod, preview frame, or lighting equipment. However, like most "ball head" mounts, it is prone to creep or slipping when subjected to a load near its 2kg (4.4lb) capacity, especially when the load is positioned off-axis. I observed this issue when attempting to mount an old Mamiya large format SLR, as the azimuth set screw wasn't up to the task. Another minor gripe I have concerns the indexing, which ranges from 0 to 180 and then back from 180 to 0. Personally, I prefer indexing that spans from 0 to 360 degrees. An added bonus is the inclusion of a cold shoe mount, making it an even more attractive value. It performed well with my iPhone, iPad, strobes, cold lights, and GoPro (utilizing optional cages/holders). I primarily use the cold shoe mount for cold lights, and it excels at this. The Hemmotop Panoramic Tripod Head is a good, versatile, compact, light duty and lightweight ball head mount ideal for a wide range of photographic tasks. It represents excellent value for its price and is recommended.

I have purchased quite a few mini ball heads over the years, and most of them have been junk. This is not one of those, and I am glad to have requested it through the Vine program. The knob is made of a tough plastic and has rounded, comfortable contours to help apply the necessary torque. The ball does not slip. The panning lock knob is a bit more difficult to apply torque to, due to its small size, but is equally resistant to slipping. It is not at all unusual for panning lock knobs to be smaller, given their intended purpose. The portion of the ball head that supports the load is wider than other mini ball heads I've owned and is made of a tough, ribbed plastic. External indentations and internal threading allow it to serve as jam nut for devices that have shallow 1/4-20 receivers. The top surface is covered in a grippy, crosshatched material that prevents the supported device from slipping and spinning. An adapter for securing the ball head to a cold shoe is included. Two jam nuts provide the clamping action for this adapter. Both the nuts and the adapter are made from an aluminum alloy and can withstand enough torque to get the job done without stripping. I have no complaints about this ball head and plan to order two more.
