Tricky chip to use, no great libraries out there for arduino

Not an east chip to use. The listing says its 5v and 3.3 volts, but the datasheet shows only VDD can be either and the rest needs 3.3v. A few things I learned along the way: 1) The i2c interface seems to be more accurate than analog. 3% variance instead of 9% between devices. 2) For arduino code look up GP2Y0E02B instead. I tried some examples online but had issues reading the SHIFT register until I added Wire.requestFrom(addr, 1) before checking Wire.available() 3) If you are just using analog I would connect VIN and GPIO1 to 3.3v. When floating I was getting inconsistent readings. 4) There is code on github to change the i2c address. It involves touching an extra pin to one of the pads on the backside of the chip. And I had to change the forever sleep loop in that code to avoid the hardward watchdog on a NodeMCU. 5) The main datasheet doesnt give i2c details, for that look up: "GP2Y0E02A,GP2Y0E02B,GP2Y0E03 Application Note" Once all the kinks were worked out it seems pretty good. I get excellent results pointed at cardboard, but other materials read different.
