There are 2 ways to detect. It will turn red and beeping when temperature is high. Very easy to use and it is the best bargain.

Not sure how accurate this is

I just dont know how accurate it is. It never gives the same temperatures and the ear is always higher than the forehead, by 1-3 degrees sometimes. But I can test my ear and it would say 98.9 then test my ear again immediately after and it would say 101.3 then again and 99.1. Ontop of this, I can test my forehead right after that and it would say 96.7. This is what would happen everytime I use it. So Im not exactly sure what number to go with, or if I can trust any of them to begin with. I never get the same number twice, not even around the same. But other than this it seems to work, as in it turns on. So theres that. Im not doctor or anything so take this for what you will I guess.

Accuracy questionable/Problem resolved

Update: After I gave my original review the company reached out to me immediately, literally the next day after my review. They were concerned that I was not happy with the product and immediately sent me a replacement at no expense to me and within two days. Clearly the original one was faulty as the replacement was perfect, no issues now and displays the correct temperature. First class customer service and overall response. Thank you. Original review: This device is solid built, unfortunately its accuracy is not consistent. Tested many times in a row on the same person and displays different temperatures every time. Also the battery compartment cover is not secure and opens easily when handled. Not sure what more needs to be said.
