Of course, there are less expensive notebooks for everyday use whether for school or taking notes for meetings. But sometimes it's good to have a lined notebook that can hold up over time. The hard cover on this Koogel notebook gives it protection when carried from place to place, holding important notes or precious ideas for poems, songs or the "Great American Novel" you're writing. The blank pages inside are not anything special and can tear as easily as any. But the hard cover adds a layer of protection you'll be glad to have. Such protection is enhanced with the attached elastic strap that keeps the notebook closed when not in use. There is also a small plastic ruler of about 7 1/2 inches, an odd size and something I doubt I'll use. It fixes to the metal spirals and can be placed anywhere on the outside or inside of the notebook. Something else included is a package of small colored tabs that could be useful for organizing the notebook's contents or marking sections for quick reference. These tabs will come in handy for me. It is more expensive than most cardboard notebooks, but may be worth it for special projects.

this notebook is a pretty good value for what it is. i like the gold binding and the color of the cover - i got this in green and it's a gorgeous color in-person. the pages don't get stuck on the binding or anything and the elastic band is also good quality to secure the notebook shut when you want to. i ordered this because i use notebooks for daily task lists, shopping lists, etc. and i needed something for that purpose. i think this is probably better for students as it comes with a header on each page the pages are large enough to hold much more content than what i needed. it also comes with dividers and a rulers, which i don't particularly need, but could be good for students.
