This packet of thyme seeds is cute, with a fun illustration of a person - presumably Seedboy - sitting on a thyme plant with a watering can in hand. The back had a product label on it that was fortunately easy to peel off, although it did leave a sticky residue. I'll be throwing the empty packet away at some point, though, so the stickiness is not a real downside. The print on the package is very tiny, and is black printing on a dark green background, which doesn't make it any easier to read. However, there is a handy QR code on the back which, when scanned, reveals a link to a lovely web page with lots of useful information about growing the thyme seeds. I spot-checked some of the information for accuracy; it was correct (and very useful to know). Whether these seeds actually germinate will depend on a number of factors, not the least of which is my gardening skill. Also, the Seedboy website says the best time for me to plant these seeds is in seven months. I haven't opened the package, because I'm not ready to plant the seeds yet, but I shook the packet, and it certainly sounds like there are hundreds of tiny seeds in it. One star off because I'm not able to confirm that these seeds are organic. I was not able to find Seedboy in the USDA Organic Integrity Database. They could definitely still be organic, and probably are; everything about the packaging looks legitimate. But I really wish they would include some way to verify the organic status of the seeds. I would also like to see some details about the company on their website. Most seed companies I purchase from have detailed information about their company. It's very possible Seedboy is just getting started, and I do hope they grow.

Because of the unpredictable weather, especially the semi-drought conditions and high heat here, I decided to plant these seeds outdoors in one of our raised beds and also indoors in a large planting tray in our kitchen window which gets plenty of sun. The seeds germinated bountifully over 6 to 8 days, putting up seedlings which continue to grow healthy and strong in both locations. I gave a portion of the seeds to my gardener neighbor, and she was also delighted with the quick germination and steady growth of the seedlings. Basil is an excellent flavorful herb with leaves that can be harvested and used right away or dried and stored to use later. These Seedboy Organic Basil Herb Seeds are a fine choice for the discriminating gardener who insists on the best Non-GMO and USDA Certified Organic seeds.

So far so good! I planted these seeds in my indoor hydroponic system on July 9 and I noticed sprouting on day three! The picture that I posted is at nine days of growth. I also appreciated the extra little opaque envelope that the seeds were in, inside the main green envelope. This way I can keep the green envelope that shows that its thyme and yet have the seeds in the inner envelope staying secure.

Thyme is a great herb that's a perennial in most areas. It's easy to grow from seed and also very drought tolerant. I have some outdoor thyme that is several years old now and continues to grow in size year after year. Or you can keep it in a pot and it makes a nice trailing plant. It's also fun to cook with and to use to season roasted vegetables or tomato-based stews. I'm not too familiar with Seedboy as a company, but had no issues with these seeds. It's also a slow grower when starting out, so follow the plant instructions and give it time. Don't bury the seeds very deep and don't keep the soil too wet. Thyme has a great scent and will flower, or you can harvest and dry it to use in the colder months. Would recommend!

I ordered this pack of Seedboy Organic Basil Herb Seeds for Indoor Gardening or Planting Outdoors to add some basil to my garden. I'm a bread and pizza baker, so I like to have fresh basil on hand. I've always relied on buing plants and then transplanting them into my garden. Lately, though, the rabbits have been going to town on my basil plants, so I thought I would try starting some from seed in a planter that's about 4 feet from the ground and not likely to get munched by the rabbits. On this list of plants that are easy to grow, basil is pretty close to the top. So long as you don't let them go completely dry, they'll do fine even in very hot weather. They also tolerate having their leaves picked pretty well. I planted about 10 of these seeds in my planter box (they'll need to get thinned out once they start growing much past the seedling stage) and I've already got 7 that are poking up. These seeds are priced competitively and are, in my opinion, a good value.
