The first earphone I bought for my crystal radio never worked reliably, and stopped working altogether in no time. After doing some research I found out that there are a couple of problems that are common with most crystal earpieces: 1.) the diaphragm needs to be brass (most are tin) 2.) the wiring inside the earpiece needs to be soldered in order to last (most are glued) This upgraded earphone addresses both of those issues, and buying them made more sense than buying a pack of diaphragms & trying to solder the wires on the other headphone myself, so I was very pleased to find them! The sound is great & the earphone has performed 100% reliably so far, and I expect they will last much longer than the first one I bought.

Very sensitive and worked well on my home brew radio. Crystal headphones emphasize the high frequencies which is a big help since my ears don't hear the highs.
I initially ordered the cheaper earphone and there was some confusion with that order but after contacting Pro Tech Trader they resolved the issue immediately. Same day they had replacement earphones in the mail. They brought it to my attention that the brass diaphragm was superior to the tin diaphragm so I ordered two of the upgrades. Glad that I did! With both styles of earbuds now on hand I can tell that the brass is much better. When shorting the leads on the tin ones I can hear a short pop. With the brass I hear a pop then a lingering tone. Haven't built my crystal radio yet but I may follow up with another review as soon as I can compare the tin with the brass with actual sound. Thanks Pro Tech! I'll be back for more of your products!
This is an improved, more reliable earphone, Protech trader sent be to replace a defective earlier model earphone with a beige cord. It is worth a few dollars more. Nice to have a vendor stand behind their product. Recommended replacement for crystal radio set. I recently restored a 1960's Rocket crystal radio.
