My grandson is into anything nautical. I ordered this for him as a Christmas gift. He loves it. Very nicely made and it's easy to refill. His favorite color is green so this was a double win. Great gift idea!

I have never seen a journal that closes like this. Instead of a hook, snap, or magnetic flap, this leather journal has a flap that folds over the edges of the pages, but it doesn't hook onto/into anything. Instead, to keep the book closed, you have to tie a leather cord around the outside of the book. The cord is so long you have to make multiple loops around the book in order to not have the cord hanging down a foot or more. I do like the nautical decorations and the deep green color, but the design choices for this were questionable, in my opinion.

While I haven't written in it yet it is really well made. The leather cover is beautiful and I love the strap to tie around it. The built in "bookmark" is great too. I like that I am able to replace or add more pages if I want to and there is still room with the cover to do so.

I couldn't believe it when I saw this cute little journal for only $7.99. Real leather would cost a lot so faux leather was what I was looking for. I love the quality of the leather and not only it doesn't have an unpleasant smell, but weirdly enough, it almost smells like real leather. It is soft and flexible, just like real leather. I love both the anchor and compass charms as well as the embossed compass. These little details are what make this journal so charming. As a journaler, a binder-style journal can only get me excited as I can add any ephemera of my choice to customize it. You can add photos, calendars, handmade drawings, etc and it is easy to do with with just a paper punch. I just line the desired item to the journal's paper, trace holes, and then use a paper punch. The paper is thicker than average and none of my journaling pens bleed through it. I really enjoy the aged, vintage look when it comes to journals, so if that's your thing, you need this journal! When you are writing on the first page, it's all smooth and easy, but when you flip the page you will need a hard surface to write on, at least for the first few pages. As with most notebooks, when writing on the left page, it is a little tricky as your hand can't reach the end of each row because of the binder rings (that happens with any spiral notebook, too), so I prefer to just remove the page, write on it and then add it back. Easy solve!
