I have a cat who always eats too fast and sometimes throws up. I have started him on slow feeding bowls, which really help a lot. He has gotten a lot faster with them so I tried this one. It's harder than the rest so it really slows him down. Like it a lot and he's fine with having to do more work to get his food.

This bowl is just the right size for my 60 lb lab/ retriever who gobbles her food down in seconds. Its amazing how long it now takes her to eat her meal. And, the dish doesnt slide around while she eats. I love the color, too.

Im partially torn on recommending this slow feeder dog bowl. My wife and I have a 5 month old puppy (For reference: shes a mutt but we think shes got some terrier and maybe some boxer in her. Shes 5 months old and weighs 32lbs) and she gobbles her food down so fast it cant be good for her. We also have a 6 year old dog and he doesnt need anything like this. We read somewhere that raising a dogs feeding bowl can help their digestion as they dont have to crane their heads down to the floor and that stops them from taking in a lot of air when eating. We have taken to using simple metal dog bowls that we raise off the floor by setting them in small metal buckets that my wife picked up at a store (I actually think the intended purpose of the buckets were sort of farm-style planter buckets for the outdoors). As such, I was looking for a silicone slow feeder mat that could fit inside the already raised bowl and this looked like it would work. It sort of works The silicone mat does indeed fit inside the bowl but not all the way to the bottom to engage the large suction cup at the bottom. This isnt a huge issue as the mat fits snuggly inside the bowl on its own due to the silicone material being sort of grippy on the metal bowl. If you decide to stick this slow feeder mat right on the floor I guarantee it will stick to the floor with no issues as it stuck to my counter tops right away. The only real issue I have is that it doesnt really force the dog to eat any slower as the grooves are not very deep. The raised grooves are maybe a quarter of an inch high offset from the bottom surface and they dont really present much of a challenge to an always hungry 5 month old dog. In fact, Ive found just the opposite is true. The pup seems to find these raised ridges as sort of a challenge and shes eating even more excited and fast than she was before! Now, this could purely be an individual issue with my dog and maybe yours will react differently. The nice thing is that for only $13 youre not breaking the bank if you buy this and it doesnt end up working for you in the long run. The silicone is soft to the touch and the suction cup at the bottom is huge and quite powerful once stuck down on a smooth surface. Being silicone it also makes clean up a breeze being able to rinse it off in hot water after each feeding and to just toss it in the dishwasher periodically for a full clean. Im going to still give this product four stars because the only thing that didnt work about this could be unique to my dog; it didnt slow her eating down. Maybe your dog will react differently. Maybe this is more suited to a much younger puppy and mine is just over zealous when it comes to eating. All things considered the actual product itself is a good product so I feel confident in rating it with four stars. I hope this review was helpful to you in some way. Cheers!
