Thick Graphite

This may be common knowledge for people using these for artistic purposes, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that the graphite in these pencils is significantly wider than in that of a "normal" pencil that a kid might use at school. I use 10B pencils for carpentry and the higher-diameter graphite is going to be really nice. I noticed the pictures from the seller didn't show an end-on view, and thought this might be helpful to pass along.

The nicest pencils

I like 10B pencils. There is a lot of variety in what different companies call a 10B pencil. This is my favorite so far for a very dark, soft and smooth writer. Its excellent for drawing.

Glen Keane from Disney uses these, and for a good reason.

Truly the pencils to rule them all. I found out about these through searching up what Glen Keane (famous Disney animator) uses to draw. They're pricey, which is why I'm taking off a star, but these feel so natural to draw with. They just glide on the page, beautifully and gesturally. You only need the softest touch to make a mark, which gives a better sense of control than other pencils. And light, gestural shading is easy, because you can quickly smudge it with your fingertip. I like it better than charcoal, because even though it's soft and dark, it doesn't transfer all over the place and make a mess. If you want to see what you can get out of these pencils, look up Glen Keane's Little Mermaid storyboards. After using these myself, I'm guessing they're what he used to produce them, and if not, the results still look really similar. I love these. They're a good splurge.

Review From a Writer, Not an Artist

I recently got into the world of pencils after being a pen-only writer for years. I like dark, bold lines (for pens, I use Pilot G2 1.0mm) and I bought this pencil in 10B because it was the darkest lead I could find for a decent priceafter tax, this set was $1.71 per pencil). To compare the more well known pencils, I also purchased Palomino BlackWing pencilsa 12 set is $2.08 per pencil; Mitsubishi 9850 HB pencilsa set of 12 is $0.68 per pencil; and a rOtring 600 mechanical pencil 0.7 for $26.40. This set is BY FAR my favorite! The case it comes in is overly impressive case to simply house a set of pencils. The little black divider that keeps the pencils in place isn't connected to the housing, this did get on my nerves because the divider would come out whenever I removed a pencil so I cut some strips of tape and connected the divider to the housing and now it's perfect. This pencils do smudge a little when writing so it may not be the best option for left-handed writers (I'd recommend Mitsubishi 9850 HB for lefties). The lead is super soft so don't expect the tip to stay sharp; for me, the tip is already dulled when I start my second letter. This doesn't bother me because I prefer bold, thick lines. I bought a set of cheap white (not pink perils) erasers at Walmart and the lines erase very well. Is the set worth the price? With the insanely good carrying case that you can repurpose long after you use up the pencils, yes. The pencils are nice and dark and the best alternative to a Pilot G2 pen. My coworkers make fun of me because now, when I pick up a standard #2 pencil, I cringe and start looking around for my good pencil! The difference in quality is a lot more drastic than I would have ever guessed.
