It's an excellent ecological alternative to paper and plastic. It's high-quality appearance and characteristics make it an important new product. PROS: * Appearance - My high-quality Stone Paper Journal, "Family Favorite Heirloom Recipes" notebook has smoother pages than paper, with a tough, thin plastic-like finish. Appears to be "heavy-duty" on close examination. Pages are large (5-1/2" x 8-1/4") with 26 lines per page. There are 50 (A5) pages providing 100 separate pages for recipes. * Stone paper is durable and waterproof, foldable and easily printable. I constructed a thin cardboard template the same size as a page. I insert the cardboard between pages, as it absorbs the impact of the pen on the page. * Stone paper journal has great durability in real life. Current research reveals that Stone Paper pages degrade after 14-18 months of direct sunlight exposure. This is a nice little notebook for keeping recipes safe and at hand. I plan on transferring all my beloved recipes to here as the pages in my old notebook are stained, tearing or ink has bled when water touched it. Nice thin yet durable twin wire binding that does not bend. Durable cover on both front and back resists water and staining as well as the paper! So far I have been unable to tear the paper (I tried with some force and only seemed to barely indent it not actually tear it). I had some chocolate on my fingers that got on to one the pages and I was able to easily wipe it off with a towel - nothing left! Water easily wipes off and page remained smooth. One thing I have noticed is I have to write a bit softer than usual as it did indent the next page. Standard ball point pen, permanent marker and pencil are recommended and wrote well. It wasn't on the recommended list but I had to try my favorite gel pen - it seemed to remain wet a bit longer than on regular paper. I had to be careful not to smear it (but was able to easily wipe the smears off and the print remained!). Once thoroughly dried, I noticed no smearing, even with water splashed on it, but probably best to stick with the ones they recommended as I had no issues with those smearing. I did notice some indentation and could see a bit through the backside as the paper is thinner yet it didn't actually bleed through, so make sure to write softly. I really like how smooth writing on the stone paper was vs regular paper. Overall, this is a great notebook that will stay nice looking for a long time due to the stain, tear & water resistance!

I admit, I am a traditionalist when it comes to keeping track of recipes - I like to handwrite them, then add notes as I am experimenting. I had been using some regular notebook paper, and then putting them inside sheet protectors, but that gets cumbersome. Not only is this cute, but it is so functional as well! You can write stuff down, then add notes, and if you get it all dusted with flour, you can just wipe it off! The writing surface still feels smooth when you write on it (i used a regular ink pen). Since I often find myself washing my hands, then quickly adding some notes to a recipe with damp hands, I wanted to see if the pages held ink when damp. The ink did smear a little when I rubbed my finger across it, even when dry. I then tried a few different pens and did find a pen that worked a bit better - so maybe it's the quality of pen that makes the difference. I then wiped down the page with a slightly damp towel, and the page held up just fine, and even better, the main writing did not smear at all, but the smudgy parts I was able to wipe off with the towel - pretty amazing! This is going to be a great addition to my kitchen!
