I ordered this cable (USB-C to USB-C) for my travel kit for its ability to handle more power for charging applications (laptops and other devices) and faster data transfer such as 4K video or as a monitor cable. Very useful as an alternate to your laptop power supply or if it doesn't have an HDMI connector for monitor support. My Dell XPS 15 laptop includes 3 - USB-4/USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type-C) ports which could benefit from this cable. It is compatible for charging some smart phones but not iPhones. The cable is obviously heavier and stiffer than your normal phone charging cable. And the USB-C connectors on both ends have bigger cases and more substantial looking strain relief. But, for the intended applications these are really not issues. I like that the cable which is USB-3.1 Gen 2, includes the required E-marker chip. This chip tells the computer about its specifications: Length of cable, maximum allowable, type of USB signal, vendor, product ID and more. So, the computer knows if the cable is appropriate for what you are trying to do. These is a great addition and add some needed regulation to the world of cable manufacturing. For example, if you tried to use a standard USB cable to power your laptop, you would get an alert stating the cable was not appropriate - because the E-marker information was missing. With my laptop, this cable supports charging for the device itself and it outputs 5V/3A for Quick charging of other supported devices. These USB-C connectors on the XPS can also fully utilize the 10Gbps data transfer rate in fact the computer can provide as much as 40Gbps. As an example of the high rate of data transfer, this would allow two (2) 4K monitors to be connected to the laptop (you may need a display adaptor depending on the monitor) So, this is a good cable to add to your kit especially for newer laptops. It works very well on my Dell XPS 15. It provides a lot of features from the laptop that can't be delivered without this type of cable. And, its very reasonably priced.
