Keeps dropping the ethernet connection.

On a new Dell desktop, this adapter kept dropping the ethernet connection. It would run fine for a few minutes, but then drop the internet connection. So, it's not really usable. But, it does connect at 2.5 Gb, if only for a few minutes.

FInally one that works out of the box

Works out of the box and really gets 2.5Gb speeds unlike 3 others I tried. Plug & Play with Linux Mint v20.3, v21.2 & v21.3 (read Debian & Ubuntu). Stays cool and running in 24/7 operation to become primary nic for one of my boxes. All of these Realtec 81xx report as 2.5Gbs under synology DSM 7.2 with the bbq driver but all ran sub 1Gbps speeds there. Native 1Gbe was faster and even better I finally got 2Gbs port aggregation working on the NAS.

Didn't work for me (Windows 7, 64-bit)

I installed this on a vanilla 64-bit Windows 7 system. Driver installed fine, hardware seems fine. But plug a network cable into it and I get squat. Could be I am doing something stupid (I often do), but the bottom line is it doesn't solve my problem, and I've got nothing to try next. Tried their "diagnostic" but it didn't tell me anything. I think there's some sort of software problem; perhaps OS related. Too bad... I really wanted this to work.

Easy to use

I bought two of these pretty recently to wire up some of my devices. It works really well with my laptop, but when I'm trying to wire up with my Nintendo Switch nothing happens it. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if the adapter is incompatible with the console, I'm also connecting it to the USB 3.0 port on the back and still nothing happens. My network switch displays that a link was successful yet still no connection via wired.

Widely supported, even works with a QNAP TS-231p

I have an older qnap TS-231p NAS (the original release model) that only has dual gigabit, but I'm interested in upgrading my network to 2.5Gbe in the near future. I know i could LAG the two ports, but it would be so much simpler if I could add a native 2.5/5Gbe port. The NAS has a single usb3 port so I thought a USB adapter should work (since QTS is a customized version of Linux). Unfortunately it doesn't work out of the box. QTS 5.1 is based on kernel 4.2.8, which predates the chipset on these realtek 2.5Gbe adapters. Plugging it in gets detected in dmesg, but the Realtek 'r8152' driver that ships with this older kernel doesn't support this newer chip. Luckily I found a guide on how to compile a compatible driver (search for RikshaDriver "compiling Realtek r8156 driver for QNAP NAS"). It's a bit involved but it works. I also plugged this adapter into a variety of other devices and all of them work flawlessly too (at least, at 1Gbe). I don't have any 2.5Gbe hardware to check but I'm confident it will work at that speed too. I'm just happy I'll be able to upgrade my NAS when I pull the trigger on everything else. And I have slim hope that if QNAP releases a new version of QTS it will work out if the box with a newer kernel.
