forget about "cartridges" this is the way

if you have a hang on back, or any other filter that you can stick this into; it is the way for a low tech, natural filtration system. filter manufacturers will tell us to change cartridges, but many novices don't know and don't realize that along with the media you throw away, you're tossing out the good bacteria that is VITAL for the nitrogen cycle that makes your tank either a thriving environment, or a surefire way to kill your fish. this square will last for years. I cut it to size, stuck it in my new tank, and with aid of bacteria seeding (see my other review for seachem product) I had this tank cycled in 3 weeks flat. highly recommended, definitely worth it!

Perfectly replaces any sized aquarium filter

I've replaced the filters in both my freshwater aquariums (10 gallon and 55 gallon) with a this sponge (cut it to size to match the dimensions of the filter) and it has worked perfectly. It has helped maintain a high count of beneficial bacteria while doing a decent job filtering the tank. No more replacing filters. Just rinse it every few weeks and good to go.

Great product. Can cut to fit any filter. Great value...holds up well. Am using it on 80 gal. Reef tank. 10 gal saltwater nano tank and a 5 gal saltwater nano tank. Great for biological filter too.

Amazing value for any aquarium keeper

I love this foam, huge for the price. Worked exactly as I wanted. I used it to make a pre-filter for the intake on a couple HOB filters, also used it to add extra bio area to those filters. This fit perfect around the Emperor 400 square intake and into the huge spaces it has behind the factory cartridges (those too were replaced with some bulk pink filter floss ordered here) Cutting to fit is super easy, I used a sharp kitchen knife due to the thickness. This stuff is strong. For my pre-filter's I cut holes partially through and stretched them to fit over the intakes. No tears, didn't even feel like it was stressing the material. Been running in my tanks for a month or two now with beautiful results.
