This set of sponges arrived moist & I'm not sure whether that was intentional or not. The inside of the box is coated & it has an open aired cut out window. There are no odors & the sponges do appear to be clean & new. I wouldn't use these for cookware but they'll be fine for basic cleaning around my kitchen & bath. The curved shape is nice. It makes the sponge more comfortable to hold when scrubbing.

I used to buy a similar sponge at my local store, and was very upset when they stopped carrying them. I was very excited to find these! The sponge is very durable, and holds up amazingly well, and the coconut fiber scrubbing side is excellent and getting off little bits of dried or burnt-on food. The only issue I had was that they're VERY stiff when you first start to use them. I'm used to having to 'break in' my sponges a bit, to get them flexible enough to curl around a mug lip or pot edge, but these were so stiff that it took me almost a week to get one broken in. I resorted to using a washcloth for anything that would require folding or curling the sponge in half, as well as anything on the delicate side, like my glassware, while I worked on softening the sponge up by using it primarily for pots and pans and letting it soak in the hot dish water while I used the cloth on other things. It did soften up enough for me to use it on all my dishes, but it was kind of a struggle to get it there. On the bright side, these should hold up well to a weekly sterilization, and occasional run through the washing machine on hot, with bleach. I'm going to try boiling one for ten minutes or so, to see if it softens the coconut fiber a bit faster and easier. If it does, I'll use that approach instead. Overall, despite the difficulty in getting them flexible enough to be usable, I'm very happy with how well they work and hold up to heavy usage.
