My wife likes to use colored pencils for adult coloring pages. But we also like to color with our preschool-aged granddaughter. Grandma didnt want the Munchkin ruining her fancy water-color pencils, so we got this for when the she comes over. This set of colored pencils is a great idea. The bigger pencils are easier for little hands to grip, and the broader pencil lead covers more area in less time to fit shorter attention spans. The cute holder is sturdy and attractive and keeps the set rolled up securely with elastic loops and a band to wrap around it. Were definitely glad the set includes a pencil sharpener, since these wont fit our electric sharpener. Theres also an eraser. However, there are some issues with this set: The first things my wife noticed is that the leads crumble and break easily. This is not good when little ones just learning to use colored pencils and crayons tend to press a bit hard. While we appreciate the 15-color assortment, we were disappointed that some of the colors were so similar. For example, it wouldve been nice to have had just one yellow pencil, rather than a light and normal one. And we didnt need three shades of red. I would have been nice to have a white pencil and a gray one. The plastic sharpener is not very strong, so we are afraid it will break soon. It doesnt hold the blade in place like it should, so it doesnt cut the wood well, either. A nice, strong metal sharpener with a solid, razor-sharp blade would be better. Finally, the loops in the holder are a bit too tight, which makes it difficult for my wife to insert pencils into, but will be even harder for our little girl. Even without these issues, this is not a $40 item. I might pay $12-20, but most people would not go for twice as much.

These are good for toddlers to color. They are bigger in size so easier to hold and not breakable. They come with a sharpener, eraser, and a case.

These are great colored pencils. Nice color variety, not just the standard colors. Vibrant colors when used. The case, sharpener, and eraser as a nice bonus. I didn't think you could erase colored pencils, but this works!

They are on the bulky side so they are easy to hold, especially for small hands. They color nicely and the "lead" holds up to rough kiddo scribbles. I love that the set came with a sharpener so you don't have to buy one separately and the pouch holds everything together. Very nice set for kids and adults.

I think this is a cute & unique "novelty" type of item for older kids or even for an adult who enjoys drawing/coloring with colored pencils! The colored pencils are nice & thick/chunky for easier holding/grasping! It's handy it comes with a sharpener & eraser too! I got it in the elephant design & the elephant on it is well done & is definitely cute! It's a little awkward/tight getting the strap on & off of it, but it's a nice, more "eco-friendly" type of container rather than a plastic pencil case or a pencil bag that's made out of a non-biodegradable, synthetic material like polyester or nylon material. (If this is indeed made of REAL "wool" & isn't just polyester felt "wool-like" material.) But if it is real wool, then you don't know if the wool was sheared humanely off of the sheep or not, or done by a machine which can cut off sheep's skin. :( So the "wool" pouch itself is somewhat a mystery/debatable as to whether or not it's a "better" choice over a regular pencil case/pouch. It could see where it could maybe get to be somewhat annoying for some children to have to always take the colored pencils out of their slots & to stick them back into their slots when they're done coloring...I'm sure some children may eventually tire of that "extra effort" required & may wind up preferring to just place the colored pencils more easily & conveniently into a regular pencil case or pouch. So that's why I feel this is kind of a "novelty" gift that's more for the fun "uniqueness" & "creativity" of it being "different" rather than the "convenience" of the rolled up pouch. It probably will depend on each individual child how long they find using the pouch slots as being "fun" or if that wears off for them & they find it more of a hassle over time. The colored pencils are also very long...I personally only let my son use short colored pencils that are made specifically for kids (so that they're safer) instead of your child wielding a bunch of long, sharp colored pencils. Sometimes my son (who's 8 now) will even wave around his regular pencil in the air while he's doing schoolwork, using it to "punctuate" in the air something he's telling me that he's excited about, making me nervous he's going to accidentally poke the pencil into his eye waving it around, yeesh...lol. So while these are thicker colored pencils which are easier for a kid to grasp, they're just as long as regular colored pencils, which isn't a plus in my mind, safety-speaking. I got this set more as a fun, unique "novelty" item for my son & I to use these colored pencils together on coloring projects, so that he's supervised while using them with me. And I figured the colored pencils being thicker would be handier/easier for me to use them as well. :) So I think this is maybe best (just in my mind) as a cute & unique item for a burgeoning "almost-teen-age" artist who still has smaller hands than an adult, so the thicker colored pencils are good for their hands, but that they're old enough to responsibly use long, sharp colored pencils without supervision, while still young enough to enjoy the whimsy of the elephant or whale design on the pouch. And who probably won't mind as much as a younger child the effort of putting the colored pencils into each individual slot when they're done with them. I could just see a younger child getting tired of doing that repeatedly honestly...depends on the child really! And an older child will have the hand strength & dexterity to be able to more easily get the strap on & off of the pouch. So I think this is a great item for an older child, or for an adult to use it with their younger kids or supervising them while they use the long colored pencils (or at the very least not making their points too sharp & pointy when sharpening them)...or it's nice for an adult who enjoys using colored pencils & taking their artwork/adult coloring books places to work on! The thicker colored pencils are nicer for anyone's hands to use honestly, since colored pencils are usually very slim to hold comfortably! So that's my take on this item! We haven't actually tried out the colored pencils, eraser, & sharpener yet since I'm waiting to share this with my son on Easter, but it's a nicely made gift item...especially if you have an "artist" in your family or an artist friend/spouse/parent/grandparent who would appreciate it! :)
