This may be more appropriate for a warm spring day and certainly not for, say, 100+ degree heat waves. The fabric allows more heat to dissipate/move through it than a fleece blanket would, or your average fuzzy dog mat. Using this by itself also isn't an option, though, as it is not thick enough to be its own thing unless you have it on a cushy rug/carpeting (though it might be better than concrete or linoleum if your dog is a little achy and won't bunch up the mat trying to get settled on it--another challenge. So there *will* be heat involved somehow, the "cool" effect will only be brief after non-use for several minutes or so. It's washable, lightweight, but not super helpful if you're trying to really help your pet beat the summer heat. DO NOT use this as your go-to for cooling your pet outside/in shade/in sweltering home.

I got this for my dog Milo so he'd have a cool blanket to lay on when we're doing yardwork. He hasn't taken to it yet but he's slowly realizing it's there for him. At first he laid next to it and then was brave enough to have his hind end on it. Maybe next weekend he'll lay on the whole thing :-) My only complaint is that since it's pretty lightweight it blew around a bit. It would be great if there was some way to secure it to the ground without making it less desirable for Milo.

Something about this cooling mat draws in all my pets, including my foster cat and my very finicky senior kitty. My dog loves it as well, of course, especially since its cooling properties are much-appreciated in the warm climate in which we live (plus with the recent heat wave, my 45-lb rescue doggy tries to stay cool whenever possible. This mat is durable and has withstood the test of time even though all three of my pets, and my current foster kitty, have given it a lot of use over the past few weeks. They were immediately intrigued and I believe something about the shape of the circles on the mat really lured them in; once they tried it, they were hooked. It does stay noticeably cooler than the other mats and blankets in the house, which is a huge plus. It's not quite as large as I had hoped so if you have massive dogs, you might want to consider ordering two and placing them next to each other. My dog sits there comfortably but dogs that are larger than her might spill over the sides. I believe the price is super low and the value is high.

Got an Irish Wolf Hound mix and a Chihuahua... something that both enjoy this cooling mat. Had to get a second one to keep them from making each other hot fighting over it. I'm sure you could refrigerate it to make it even cooler (if you have the space), but you'll see that it's cool without that and comfy to lie on.

Mild, fabric type, cooling, in the sense of dissipating heat and allowing air flow. The building block components of this fabric is composed of material that is perfect for a overall, subtle, cooling effect. There's no actual cooling effect in terms of anything like "air conditioning" or "ice", or anything that can really be measured in terms of temperature change.... not that I can find anyway. The cooling effect here is very mild so I can only hope no irresponsible dog owner takes this as a reason to leave his dog out in 90 degree heat all day. Thinking this will have any effect more than a single degree or two of difference, is probably not a good assumption. Mild cooling, very subtle, almost imperceptible even, is the best this is going to do, which is better than nothing. I use a human neck cooling ring, where the liquid inside is frozen in the freezer, and then I put around my dogs necks to cool them after a hot walk, this mat would not be able to help much on it's own I don't think... not in the Texas heat anyhow. It's better than laying on a wool blanket or similar fabric, so it will help to dissipate heat better than any other fabric, I can sure say that, it's just not going to have an impact like a ring of ice around the neck. Great product.
