Gets flimsy after first use

I've been looking for larger sized spoons for future Chinese style family meals and this sugarcane spoon product performed admirably. I tested a spoon by pouring boiling hot water on them and letting it soak for fifteen minutes. It held together very well with just a touch of softness above the bowl of the spoon where it narrows. Of course, we don't drink our soups boiling hot so this test shows that it can withstand extremes. It has a good mouth feel and no taste. I'll be using this for my next Chinese meal gathering and will be grateful for fewer utensils to wash.

I'd rather send Misses Shops Too Much to work with these, (for use with her wet lunches) instead of our good porcelain (glass) soup spoons of this style. These are functional, and yes, waterproof. I heated some water and left one of these sitting in that water for...I lost track of time. It was at least an hour, but may have been as much as 3 hours. In any case, it was still "able" and spooned the water to my mouth; not droopy or drenched, but still up to the task. Since it was just water, I put the used spoon in the dish drain to dry over night. Used it in the morning (it was fully dried out and still strong). Depending on what you are using these for, they *may* be able to be rinsed and re-used once or twice. They are moderately sturdy. They won't buckle in use as long as they have not been compromised (like something heavy crushed them). Still, they are closer to a cardboard kind of material, than a hard, rigid plastic and while testing the strength I bent the stem (handle) which compromised the structural integrity (and my confidence using it). Even so, with me being mindful of its weakness, it was still usable; I just had to hold it a little differently. The stem/handle could be a little more "beefy" for my taste. These come in a *very* no frills package; a very thin plastic (not reusable) bag. I put the whole stack of them in a sandwich sized ziploc. As much as I like the convenience and not risking breaking our good glass spoons, I think these could do a little better on price...twenty cents each seems a bit high to me....But I'm pretty frugal...so maybe it's just me. I've given a 4 star rating based on initial impressions and *perceived* quality, not on long term/repeated use. I hope this review has been helpful and enables you to make an informed purchase decision. I rarely give an overall 5 star rating.
