I didn't realize there was a third button which is customizable, so i made it into the ctrl button to zoom in and out. The scroll wheel could also be pressed from the sides to scroll sideways. This mouse made scrolling and reading through pdfs much easier. No need for a mouse pad since this stays stationary, making it possible to have my mouse on my lap and still being just as productive. I chose a wired mouse instead of a wireless to avoid delay and the "click to wake up" function which is typically found in wireless mouses. Great for my college pdf readings. BUT ON THE OTHERHAND one thing i am having trouble with is highlighting. The trackball can be difficult and maybe even frustrating to use since it has trouble moving the mouse smoothly across one letter. (This is common in all trackball mouses, not necessarily this product). Use a graphite pencil and cover the studs that hold the ball in place to reduce the friction a bit. I have always used Logitech trackball mice (thumb ball versions) but they are not as good as they used to be so I need to purchase some new models to see if they are adequate replacements. Recently got a Nulea M501 which is quite good. Decided to also get this Elecom EX-G to test as it was also reasonably priced. The Good - It's nicely shaped and my palm drapes over it comfortably. It's not too slippery so my hand stays in place. The buttons are positioned right beneath my fingers and are wide enough so I don't have to think about which button I'm pressing or have to move them slightly to get a good press. The additional 4th button is appreciated but you need the Elecom software to reprogram it (might be re-programmable with other software but I didn't try anything else.) The scroll wheel is typical and works well. Tilt is also good and stiff enough so that it's not accidentally invoked. The Not-So Good - There is a significant difference between high and low mouse speed so you need to make sure you experiment a lot with Windows' mouse settings, Elecom's settings and this button to get it dialed in. Takes a bit of work to do and more than I'd like. The Fwd/Back buttons are ever so slightly too far back and I have to bend my index finger back a bit more than I'd like to activate the back button but that's admittedly a me-problem. Your experience will likely differ. The trackball is smooth but still has a bit of jitteryness to it so the mouse pointer seems to jump noticeably as you move across the screen. Comparing to the Nulea, the Nulea moves smoother. Not sure if that's a driver issue or a mechanical one with the thumb ball in the casing just not being smooth. The Bad - The buttons are simple cantilevers of the top surface and extend over the actuators and are EXTREMELY easy to push meaning, if you like to rest your fingers on the buttons, you are going to activate them when you don't mean to. So, instead of your hand being at rest, it takes some thought and muscle to keep them from pushing down and that can get a bit fatiguing very quickly. This is particularly important in gaming where, if you're not careful, you will fire your gun, activate an item, click the wrong thing, etc. when you didn't mean to. So the buttons need to be way stiffer than they are. This is likely an ergo thing - making buttons easier to push to prevent repetitive stress - but these are way overboard and just too easy to push accidentally. So it's good but, for me, not the best. I prefer the Nulea M501 a bit more since I can rest my fingers on the buttons more comfortably without actuating them.

I never used one of these before neither did I know they even existed. I bought one because we have them at work, and I enjoyed using them for the first while getting a crash course in operating what is known as a bonding machine. In short there is a crap ton of scrolling involved. Partly used to move a microscope around on XY axis. The other part is scrolling and selecting up to 1000k lines for editing. These machines wire batteries together. Anyway after I fell in love with trackballs I went ahead, and bought one for myself at home. It's a bit different from the one at work. This one is thumb operated. It feels natural to use. A cross between a gaming mouse and a trackball. I dock my laptop to my monitor at home. This trackball enables me to operate in very confined space on my desk. It's not very precise but it's not that bad. I can do most things except maybe play fps games. I use it mostly for web browsing and programming. It's amazing for selecting sections of code. I noticed less wrist strain then before. My wrist does not feel tired while using this. I'm sure it'll prevent wrist problems later on. It's money well spent. I love computers and work on them constantly. It's worth the extra cost for a mouse to buy one of these. This mouse in particular feels very premium, it's built well, and it actually feels good in my hand. My other mouse is a Death Deathadder Chroma. I also have a vertical wireless mouse for travel. Nothing beats this thing in comfort. Fantastic product! I'm sold on trackballs!
