The case that came with my fork., that's f-ork, seems to lock securely. (We fork people are s-m-a-r-t! I wrapped a rubber band around the narrow end of the case just behind the bulge--see?)The folding action of the fork is smooth and when locked out, is straight, so put away your needle-nose pliers. The tines are salad fork length--which, I use a salad fork for everything--and the fork has good weight, feel, and durability, comparable to all but the most expensive forks. The fork can be "custom bent" if you so desire and without the need for tools. I put a slight curve in the tines by pressing down on the base of the fork tines with the tine tips resting on a flat part of a dinner plate. Voi-la! Oh. By the way. In this case, there is such a thing as a right-handed fork. If you're a south paw who habitually cuts food with the edge of the fork, you won't like this fork. It was designed with right-handers in mind. Maybe the company will read this and say, "Hey! Digital Man is right!" We'll see. Would I recommend this product? Well. Let me tell you a story. My group went to a popular Mexican restaurant, ordered, and after the food arrived, the server came to our table to inform us that she was sorry, but the dish washer was behind on cleaning the flatware--no kidding! So there we were, food steaming on the plates and no way to shovel it into our mouths! Would I recommend this product. Yep! Unless you don't mind rolling up your sleeves and pitching in in the kitchen--maybe getting a free--albeit cold--meal.
