This template is super sturdy and a great size and pattern; unfortunately, I didn't realize I had the wrong sewing machine foot at first so I had to wait to get the right one. Once I found the proper free motion quilting foot, it fit perfectly into the template. That being said, I am new to this style of quilting, having only done very simple straight line designs before. I was not able to actually figure out how to use the template, so I think I'll have to watch some youtube videos and figure out the settings on my machine. Aside from my own inexperience, the template itself feels very sturdy and well made. The acrylic material is thick and it feels like it will last a long time. I am excited to expand my skills and give this a real try!

The design is nice but I think it should be made with a heavier material.

In the 1990s, I took a course on how to make a quilt entirely by hand. I learned how to make patterns, appliques, seams, binding, and everything needed to make a quilt. At that time, I completed everything but the backing and top stitching. I have kept my heirloom-quality quilt carefully covered and protected with the intention of completing it. Well, decades passed, life has happened, and my quilt remains just as I left it. When I saw the product offering that allowed for perfect heart-shaped top stitching, I went for it. Because I am completing my quilt by hand, I cannot comment on the template's compatibility with machine sewing. However, as an experienced seamstress, I believe it will work well for my purposes. The template's substantial weight and thickness have enabled me to easily trace the design onto the top of my quilt. The final result will be a beautiful topstitch that adds the perfect finishing touch on an already impressive quilt.

I'm pretty new to using rulers when quilting, but I really liked this design. The ruler is fairly thick, which is great to make sure your presser foot does not slide above the ruler when quilting and cause damage to your machine, ruler and needle. It also comes with silicone grip dots that you can adhere to the back of the ruler to help hold it in place when sewing. I was concerned at first that the pattern would be too intricate for a novice, but I found that the opening in this ruler was perfectly cut for a ruler foot. (This is assuming you have a ruler foot for your machine. If you want to try ruler quilting, you will need to get a specific foot for this type of quilting. You may need to see if your machine has this option.) If you don't have a ruler foot you could still use this as a template and trace the design onto your fabric and then free motion quilt it. I was very happy with the way the design looked when sewn. I think it will be a great way to add a fun pattern to borders on a quilt. If you haven't used a quilt ruler or a ruler foot before, you may want to see if your local sewing center or quilt shop offers a class. I took one and found it extremely helpful. There are also some great videos on YouTube that can get you started.
