The Oil Kings from Gateron are possibly one of their most famous enthusiast-grade switches and for a good reason too. These linear switches are some of the best sounding and smoothest feeling linear switches I have ever used. Each keypress really does feel slick and smooth out of the box, no manual lubrication required, and each keypress is accompanied by a soft, slightly muted, and thocky sound signature which is very pleasant to my ears. If you're in the market for a new set of linear switches and do not want to deal with the hassle of manually lubricated switches and just want something that you can use out of the box, these switches are by far one of the best options out there.

The media could not be loaded. The Oil King from Gateron is a wildly popular switch, and it's easy to see why. The Oil King is a smooth, firm linear with an amazing sound profile. The switch creates a deep, restrained (but intentional) sound. The factory lubing is great and there is no hint of scratchiness or spring ping. To my ear, the bottom out sound is a little more muted than the top out sound, creating an effect almost opposite of the WS Jade, though maybe not quite so drastic. These switches are well constructed with tight tolerances. They fit easily into the keyboard and the keycap fits onto the stem smoothly and snugly. There is minimal stem wobble. The Oil King takes a bit of force to actuate and may not be suited for people who like light switches. While the all-black colorway is iconic, the lack of a dedicated light diffuser window means that this switch will dim backlight LEDs if your keyboard has them. At around $0.72 per switch at time of writing, this is a more expensive option. The higher price is not unwarranted, though, because these are some seriously well-designed switches.
