I've been working on embroidery intermittingly during the last year. It's very hard to find the time to do this, so my skill level is probably still a little low. I've done a lot of botanical kits, but I really want to become proficient with birds and animals. This kit is perfect for getting the design concepts and stitches that are most appropriate to birds. I can't wait to be good at feathers. Seems like thread could be a very good medium for feather texture. I've been working on one of the four bird scenes. It was very hard to choose which one to start with because they are all nice designs with great floss colors. I like that this kit includes all the basic stuff you need, so if you want a quick packet to take with you, you don't have to worry about other supplies. There is one hoop, but it is sturdy and holds the material tight. The material is printed in a bright blue, which is super easy to see, which I appreciate given my rather extreme nearsightedness. I am assuming that the pattern will wash off once complete as every other kit does. If it does not, I will definitely return and edit this. The floss is fairly high quality, which is unusual in a kit like this. It separates easily and I haven't gotten a lot of tangling. This comes with two standard needles with the floss card, and a packet of smaller gauge needles, which are great for the satin stitches and other places you don't want big needle holes. The scissors and needle threader are basic issue, but they do what you need them to do. Kits without needle threaders are just mean. The directions are decent, better than many kits, but likely not efficient for someone just beginning to embroider. There are lots of books and videos online to consult. The kit does use a variety of stitches in each design, which I really like. Not only is it more interesting to use varied stitches, but it helps me become more proficient when I can practice a wide range of stitches. This is a great kit with beautiful designs that are not overly complicated for someone new.

OBSESSED! Where have I been? I have cross-stitched, latch-hooked, and sewed quilts but never tried embroidery. This kit is so easy to use for someone who has never embroidered. It comes with each design separately packaged. All of the thread is separated in a numbered palette that corresponds to the pattern. I have never done the stitches before and found the directions easy to understand. I could sit and do this for hours, it's so relaxing. The learning curve for me wasn't too steep, but I have improved in just the few days I've started. I recommend going just beyond the printed pattern so the lines don't show on the edge of your stitching. Maybe this is a known rule, but I was almost staying in the lines, like coloring, so I can see some of the pattern along some of the edges. Not a big deal, this is my first piece and it's still turning out beautifully. If you are looking for a relaxing, fun, and rewarding new hobby, give this a try. Highly recommend!

Everything you need is included in the kit, including all the floss, the preprinted canvas, a set of embroidery needles, 1 hoop, needle threader and a pair of scissors. The scissors however, are very cheap and barely function and if you dont already have a decent pair of scissors, I suggest buying a small pair of embroidery scissors as they cost about $4-10.
