My favorite thing about this set is probably the carrying case. Unlike the ones with the terrible quality you used to get in middle school (you know, the ones with the weird bubbly plastic material that did NOT hold up to any pressure), this one is much nicer, zips closed, and is super easy to transport. The materials inside are pretty nice. I'm not a professional artist (more of an amateur learning art supplies as I go) but they all seem to work quite well. No complaints from me. The smudge sticks are really cool. I don't use them much for my art but it's really nice to have them there when I do and I like the variety included. I think if I was more of a professional artist I might have some complaints about this kit but if I was a professional artist I probably wouldn't be buying a $15 art set anyway, so it all evens out. Definitely something to grab for someone just getting into learning art who isn't ready to move onto the stuff with the hefty price points yet.

I admit, this is an unusual review, but this sketching and shading set really did bring tears to my eyes. Let me explain... A few weeks ago, my elderly father, who is an amateur artist, was sitting on my couch and decided to grab a pencil and sketch pad to draw something for my kids. He asked me if I had one of those smudge sticks for him to use and I told him I didn't. I occasionally dabble in art (mostly unsuccessfully), but I haven't really sketched anything since high school. My dad used to be a very wealthy businessman in his younger years, but he had to leave all of his money and belongings behind to flee a hostile regime in his home country and bring our family here to the United States. Today, he is nearly ninety years old, can barely walk, and lives by meager means. He can't afford to buy art supplies, so he gets by with a regular pencil and paper. When I saw this amazing sketch set available for review, I immediately ordered it for him to try out and tell me what he thinks. I wasn't expecting what happened next. He spent the whole day sketching... portraits of Mark Twain, William Shakespeare, Hans Christian Andersen, the list goes on. Then he told me something I wasn't expecting... "Son, I started to sketch with the charcoal pencil set that you gave me and it helped me to feel like I am still alive." So yeah... That really got to me. I love you, Dad. I hope you enjoy his art as much as I do. In case you're interested, it's a really nice set. Pencils ranging from the hardest to the softest. A sharpener, smudge sticks, a razor knife, sandpaper, erasers, you name it. Everything has its own little place inside a beautiful zippered black carrying case. You won't be disappointed.

The selection of pencils and charcoal drawing implements make for a near complete drawing, sketching and shading set. The only two things missing from the set is the talent of the artist using this set and paper. Well I have one and with practice I may have another. This set is a great gift for a talented youngster too. So I'm torn, me use or gift it? The zipper case is a nice touch to keep all together. My only gripe (really?) is the pencil grades were all facing away in the loops and are very hard to turn to find out what they are (poor me). I'm in a quandry; is it a value or not. I think it is a little high price but what is value anyway except what it gives you as a benefit of using or gifting it. So, OK for me, value. I'm back. An issue had arisen and I contacted Incraftables about it. Their after-sales customer concern was fabulous. They immediately tackled the issue and solved it with absolute customer satisfaction. This is a company who has an extremely fine product as I have mentioned as well as great after-sales concern and that makes this company one to be trusted to buy from them and get a quality product. Value is in what the product gives to you. This product has given me a lot in the charcoal pencils and customer satifaction. A great value to me.

My husband was very pleased with the variety of art supplies in this set. Hes been drawing for years, and he didnt have some of the pieces in this kit. Some of the pieces arent the most high end options, but they all work fine, and why take the most pricey pieces out to the park where they can get lost easily? All in all, a nicely curated set of art supplies, suitable for everyone from kids to skilled artists. At the current price ($15.95) its a nice little bargain, buying each piece individually would cost much more, and this comes with the bonus case.
