This is an easy enough game to figure out. If you aren't familiar with the game, it's kind of based on, then it might be challenging to you. It was to me, but my teenager explained it all to me. I won't get into the mechanics of the gameplay, since there are instructions included and lots of reviews that talk about it. If you're a fan of the show/manga, then it really won't matter what age you are when you play this. You're going to have a fun time. There are lots of 'ways to play', so you can kind of pick your ending and your way of playing based on your personality. The game pieces are all good quality. I was impressed for the price. We've played several rounds with teens and adults, and everyone's enjoyed it. Everyone was also eating and drinking and, while they were respectful of the pieces, they were also playing a game, lol. Everything held up well and cleaned up well with no damage. This is a fun game to play for a quick thirty or forty minutes, depending on how quickly you pick this up and take your turns. You can play this as a time filler at parties or play a few rounds on a rainy day. You can change up how you play to keep it interesting, which is what I like most about this, besides that it's Spy X Fam. I would gift this to a friend who likes the anime and tabletop, or the Touhou card game, because it plays very similarly, except for with a much shorter timeframe. It's a good value and definitely a lot of fun.

I didn't personally play this, but gave it to my kids. They played it and had fun, and now it's in their "game night" collection.

This is a cute gift idea for fans of the Spy Family anime and manga. Having watched the anime and kept up with the manga as subscriber of Shonen Jump, I can say this set does the series justice. Granted, the entire peanut obsession of Anya isnt a thing anymore. At least its not been part of the manga in a long time, not like it was in the beginning. Without getting into my irritation about how the manga has fallen off the track and feels like nothing but filler anymore, I do still like the characters and base story. But that has nothing to do with this game, so I digress. The game comes in a nice box, both visually and physically. Its made of thick carboard, which should last with repeat use. The instruction booklet is full color and is well laid out with nice artwork. The illustrations on all the pieces are accurate and well drawn. The cards are 0.2 mm thick, which is standard, but I can see them bending if one isnt careful. The peanuts, on the other hand, are 2.0 mm thick so can take a beating. The gameplay is interesting, but can be a bit confusing at first. You do need a minimum of 3 players with up to 5. Its designed for ages 10+, lasting between 20-30 minutes. Overall, this is a nice game, and I could see it being attractive to collectors. Its well designed and a great gift idea for fans. Now if only the manga author would get back to the main plot of the story!

I bought it on a whim, but it's pretty fun.

The game Love Letter has been extremely popular for the last several years and has been re-themed for Marvel, Batman, Star Wars, The Hobbit, and many more. But apparently the charming anime SPY x FAMILY decided to go a different route and created their own game that is very similar. If you're familiar with Love Letter, then you already know 80% of how this game works. The character cards match the characters from the show Loid the spy, Yor the assassin, Anya the telepath, Bond the seer, Franky the informant, Sylvia the handler, Fiona the agent, and Yuri the secret police. Each player is dealt 2 cards. They can choose to play a card to change their current ROLE, which means they now ARE that character and benefit from their unique ability (e.g. Anya cannot be eliminated by the assassin). Alternatively, they can choose to discard a card for its ASSIST ability (e.g. Anya gets to look at every other player's hand and then take another action). As you play your cards, you have 3 paths to victory. First, if you collect all three members of the Forger family (Loid, Yor, and Anya) then you immediately win! Second, if every other player is killed by the assassin, and you're the last player remaining, then you win. Third, if you play through the whole deck, then the player who ends with the most highly valued card combination in their hand wins. (e.g. Having the Spy + Telepath or the Spy + Assassin in your hand is best. Having the Assassin + Telepath is second best. And so on.) Each round plays really fast, and if you win, you get a peanut! (Anya would be so happy.) There are actually little peanut tokens that you get to keep track of your wins. The first person to 3 peanut points wins the game. It takes just 20-25 minutes to play through a full game. Overall, this game does a lot of things well. The instructions are well explained and illustrated. Each player gets a little reference card to remind them of each character's abilities. The artwork is beautiful and pulled straight from the show. The peanut tokens are super cute. My only complaint is that the box is many times larger than it needs to be. I don't have unlimited shelf space, publishers! Putting a great game into a small box is not a bad thing! Obviously this game is meant for fans of the show. I doubt it would seem as charming to anyone else. But for fans of the game who also love board games, this is practically a guaranteed hit!
