I returned this item as it was a lot smaller than I expected, and I did not think it would work out for the purpose I wanted it for.

This is a nice little tool! Although it is marketed as a child's toy, I've been using it for rockhounding. The built in LED light is great to see what your looking at. The clip to use with a cell phone comes in handy for capturing the image of what you see through the microscope as well!

This product is described as follows: "MicroMini 60X LED Lighted Pocket Microscope, Children's Microscope, Preschool Science Toy, Kids' Gift, Currency Detection, Jewelry Appraisal, Compatible with Smartphones". I take issue with most of that. First off, this microscope is more "dependent on smartphones" than "compatible with smartphones". It works in tandem with a smartphone. I hope that preschoolers do not have smartphones - I know mine don't, and I do not know any who do. Not all older children / kids have smartphones either. This microscope really shouldn't be sold as a children's microscope. That just is not what it is, and I hate to think of someone wanting to share the joy of a microscope with a child only to be misled by the product description and end up buying this. That is exactly what I did, so it does happen, but luckily I realized that the item was not as expected before giving it as a gift to a child. I will just keep it for myself. I do have use for it, so no harm done. I will keep it in my purse and rig it up when second-hand / estate sale shopping. It will come in handy for that for sure.

I like fountain pens and use magnifying glasses to look at my nib on the fountain pen. This microscope comes in a thin cardboard box, which makes me think that it is not giftable. It made me feel like it was a cheap toy. The microscope does have a nice felt bag to store the magnifying glass. I have a newer phone with 5 camera lenses. I found it difficult to find which lens to use when using the magnifying glass. When I found the right lens, I got a telescope view view of my nib. When I tried to focus on the nib, it gave me a closer/better view. Unfortunately, sometimes my phone would focus too much and change lenses. The clip is a soft clip which is good so that it does not scratch my phone lens. However, when I adjust the microscope, it does not stay in place. I ended up holding the microscope, phone, the fountain pen, trying to adjust the microscope and viewing the nib. I found that this was sometimes difficult to manage. Overall, this is an okay microscope if I had an older phone.
