There are what I would describe as 4 plastic toggle switches labeled "1 0", one metal toggle stick, one push button that toggles on/off, and a rotary switch. Other than the LED's for the eyes each button or switch is associated with a single LED. There is no separate on/off switch The rotary switch is binary rather than variable in that it does not cause the LED associated with it to change intensity in any way other than to turn on after a click in one way and to turn off after a click in the other way (it does nothing if turned further in the direction for an action it has already performed). It uses 2 AAA batteries. The battery compartment on the back is secured by a small metal screw inserted directly into wood. The battery cover fit is very snug so may require fingernails or a tool to pry open. My granddaughters particularly like that they can move the robot arms, and that the lights are different colors that they can turn on/off.

I really wanted to like this little robot. Cute factor gets 5 stars.. but the quality was really lacking. Within less than a week, the robot started coming apart and not working correctly. The little light board inside of the robot started to fall inward and doesnt stay up anymore. Playability in general does not last very long and my kids moved on from this toy very quickly.

I got this toy for my nieces to play with when they visit me. It did have a small chip in the paint on the front, but they're both young enough that they won't care, I'm sure. I appreciate that the arms are elasticated, and can bend outward a small distance as well as rotating. It means I worry less about them accidentally breaking one of the arms off. I was also pleased to find that the edges of the wood had been sanded smooth and I do not have to take care of that myself. I didn't notice any slivers or splinters anywhere that they could prick themselves on. The battery compartment requires a screwdriver to open, and even then it's not easy to pry the face of it off. This means there's no worry about a child accidentally getting into it and swallowing a battery. Overall, I like that this has the classic feel of the wooden toys that I used to play with at my grandparents' house when I was a child, but in a more modern application (busy board). I got this for my child with autism, he's 10 and high functioning. He still enjoys fidgeting with it and enjoys the lights flashing on and off. The quality is great too.
