We bought this for my special needs daughter who is high sensory seeking and very oral. Its timeless and it doesnt look baby-ish. It keeps her entertained for hours at a time.

This Montessori Toys for Babies 18 Months, Baby Sensory Toys for Toddler 1 2 Year is just OK. I went through all the claims online and tested it for myself and then allowed a 5 year old to try it before giving it to the 1 year old. The online descriptions are accurate. There are 6 rubbery pull strands. They have different shapes on the top and bottom of the rope. There are 2 wavy ropes and 4 bamboo-design ropes. I think the textures would be good to relieve teething pain. They do pull through and the bamboo ones feel different to pull through than the wavy ones do. There are 3 pop dots that you can do on either the top or the bottom of the toy and they work as expected. There is a rolling ball on the other side and it takes some coordination to do. There is a rolling panda that looks like the one online, except it has the word "Panda" on its shirt. The rim of the toy and the panda are hard plastic and the inside where the ropes are is hard rubbery stuff. There is a ribbed area (for teething relief) on the bottom of the rim. There is also a handle and a good rattle. SAFETY: I couldn't break any of the pieces apart by tugging, biting, or shaking. I was able to pull the ropes out of the toy completely and they can't be put back into the toy like they were at first. Even though they came out, they didn't seem like a choking hazard as they are almost 10 inches long. You can tie them around and an older child could pull them tight around the baby's finger or something and cause a problem. Around the middle, where the ropes are, there are slits for decoration between each rope. I and an older child were able to get our fingers in them and the 5 year old's finger got stuck until I released it. The ball that rolls between the 3 holes is well secured in the toy but the holes are another place where the 5 year old got his finger stuck as he was trying to move the ball. A baby wouldn't be able to do that but it might be uncomfortable to get your finger jammed in that area. When I bit down hard, I couldn't break the ropes, so that is good. BABY TEST The one year old liked the toy for about 3 minutes and then put it down. I tried to get her attention by shaking the rattle and showing her the pop dots and the spinning panda. Maybe she was not thrilled about the ropes hanging down, but she didn't want to play with the toy any longer. Another child might be more interested.
