These sharpeners work really well. After buying several different types for my classroom, I think these are the best. I originally purchased them for sharpening colored pencils, but I've seen the students using them for lead pencils (we must have gotten a bad batch of pencils that refuse to sharpen in the electric sharpener). I've heard students commenting, "little metal ones work the best!" and they were quick to complain about the other ones. Hands get dirty when sharpening #2 pencils, but previous plastic ones that were enclosed in colorful plastic that held the shavings fell apart almost immediately.

These little sharpeners are AMAZING value for the price. I've used very expensive sharpeners that are much more finnicky and difficult to get consistent results with. After a bad experience with the Blackbird single stage sharpener, I gave these little two stages a go and I'm never looking back. It's almost impossible to bungle the point or snap your lead with these, as they offer even support for the tip throughout the entire sharpening process. That means no wiggly pencils in the sharpener threatening your precious point as you try and get back to work. They produce a smooth, clean cut on the wood of my pencils, and the shavings are very consistent in thickness with a perfect edge. You won't have burrs or chipped lead with these little beauties thanks to the quality blades. Don't spend 20-40 dollars on a single, overpriced and less-than-functional sharpener when you can get these for around a dollar a piece and get the perfect point every time with just a few twists!
