There are multiple reasons I reach for Olfa frosted rulers for piecing quilts before any other brand. They are accurate. The lines are narrower than other brands and easy to line up. The ink is not raised so the frosted bottom side is smooth while also providing a slightly grippy surface, which makes them less apt to slip when using a rotary cutter. They are the number one rotary cutting ruler in my studio.

This ruler is very easy to read with its accurate and very visible measurements.

I've tried all sorts of rulers & my previous favorite was Omnigrid. The lines are highlighted in yellow which makes for easier placement on dark fabrics. However, I find the lines are too thick (fat, wide?). I LOVE the lines on the Olfa Ruler - they are dark & just the right thickness to make my cuts more precise. The ruler allows me to make confident cuts! Olfa also has a dotted line on the half-inch mark which I really like. The frosted makes the Olfa a little easier to read on dark fabrics.

I love this ruler. This is the perfect size for everyday cutting if youre a quilter. I actually 3 of these same sizes but I use this one the most. I was contemplating buying a creative grids ruler because of the non slip qualities that creative grids rulers are known for. But I decided to go with the olfa instead. This ruler is (1) less expensive (2) has more degree marks than the other one. This one has a 30, 45, and 60 degree marks for both right and left handed people. The creative grids ruler only had the 45 degree marks that every ruler seems to have. This ruler is also frosted which supposedly helps with color value on fabric. (Im sure it does but Im not sure it should be advertised as such.) What it does have is that the frosted part, personally helps me with seeing the lines better on the ruler because of the muted effect it has on fabrics. The frosted part also feels like a non slip surface for fabrics than the slick side of the ruler. Overall a good buy and good choice. I recommend this ruler. For those starting quilting, I recommend having 6x12, 6x24 and 6.5 squared ruler. Additional ruler 3x18 is also nice to have on hand, but not required. I have many more rulers than I need but those are essential to start.
