I bought 2 of these heaters. One for my 10g, one for my 30g. Out of the box the heater for my 30g worked fine. Or so I thought, after having my tank set up and cycled for quite awhile, I started buying fish. They kept dying, thinking I was doing something wrong, maybe the decoration or rock was causing harm to the fish. I set up my other tank (10g), I had my tank set for guppies. Their recommended temperature is about 76-82F. I set it to 78F. The smaller heater for my 10g (I did follow the guidelines for the watts needed and bought the correct heater size for my tanks.) Right out of the box the thermometer didnt work, didnt want to fuss about it and figured they both came with one so Ill use one for the time being. From time to time Id check the water and it seemed ok. I eventually bumped the heater to 80 because the gauge was reading 75 when I had it set to 78. Finally the water was feeling the correct temperature. I checked again today even though my heater is set to 80 when originally it was feeling warm. My water is cold reading 77!! 3 degrees difference. Temperature for a fish tank shouldnt fluctuate 3 degrees. This can be detrimental to fish. While I can say sure you may be saving money. Think about the potential losses you may face and youll eventually have to buy a different heater anyway. Im extremely saddened that this could have easily been avoided if I had spent a few more dollars and bought something else.

Reliable little heater

Keeps my fish warm in their 5 gallon nano. Haven't tried it in anything bigger but would be confident using it up to 10 gallons. I haven't had a problem with it and it's half the price of the ones at big boxes or any LFS. Same quality and no abusive mark up. Recommended!

It works pretty well

It frequently turns on and off, which it shows with a green/red light (It is not heating in the picture). It keeps the tank warm but not too warm. It says it is supposed to be 78 degrees, and it keeps mine consistently at 80, which isn't a problem for my Betta fish, but I just thought I should point that out. I like that there is a little plastic "cage" around the actual heater part to keep the fish from touching it. I would recommend it.

This heater did a great job and kept my turtles happy through the colder winter months. They will stop eating and look to hibernate unless they can be kept temperate.

Works Great So Far!

Ive had this heater in my betta tank for about two days now, and so far its been great. I was worried it was going to be too big for the tank but it fits well on the side and doesnt get in my fishs way. It was super easy to install, and I like that it has a preset temperature so there are no complicated buttons or dials. The heater pretty constantly adjusts itself and the light turns from red to green fairly often, but the light isnt bright enough to cause a disturbance. I really like that it came with a thermometer stickerit helps me make sure the temperature is staying at around 78. My fish has seemed pretty happy to have warmer water; hes definitely been more active. Im going to continue to keep a close eye on it but I love it so far, and its perfect for a desktop tank!
