Perixx PERIBOARD-432 Wired Mini USB Keyboard - X Type Scissor Keys - Big Print Keys - US English, Black...

I use a mechanical keyboard for work. It gives unmatched response, feel. I know exactly when the keys "register" and type much faster on it than on the newer, squishy membrane keyboards. But my mechanical keyboard is wired, cluttering my desk. So I experimented with two dozen Bluetooth and IR (dongle) keyboards. I learned I Hate. BT. Keyboards. Absolutely HATE them. They shut down whenever I take a break to do something else quick, then I have to wait until they feel ready to work to continue to do my work. Add to that just about every EM signal in modern spaces can interrupt BT and disconnect my keyboard. Then there are the travails of trying to get BT keyboards to re-connect... Uh, a keyboard is supposed to help me work. NOT to be a diva I have to pamper. No thanks. Among the dongled keyboards, they're all FAR more stable than BT keyboards (no sleep/wake issues or problems getting disconnected). But many have these new-style membrane keys. Or their plastic key mechanisms feel strange. Ugh. Enter Perixx. The best of both worlds. Stability of a wired keyboard (so far) AND the convenience of a clean desktop without ugly wires trapping other items on the desktop. And the key feel is quite good. No, not nearly as sharp as a true mechanical keyboard, but good enough for me to get hours of work done on it. I also appreciate the characters are all written in big, bold letters/numbers/symbols. Time will tell if the characters wear off quickly--but for now, they're very clear. I don't know why in the 21st century as more and more of us are required to work late so many keyboard manufacturers DON'T include backlighting. But Perixx has easy on/off backlighting. I dislike that my mechanical keyboard uses TEN backlighting profiles. To turn BL off I have to cycle through all 10--waste of time. Perixx uses just a simple white BL--on/off via FN + F10. You can also control the screen brightness via FN + F1/F2 (at least as I've tested on Linux so far). The other option I was looking at was the Logitech MX Mini Keys keyboard at more than 3 time what I paid for Perixx. Maybe the Logitech would have felt heavier, denser, more solid. But I'm happy I saved the money and got the Perixx. As much as I enjoy typing on my mechanical keyboard, I hate the ugly cords on my desktop so may buy another Perixx... If anything changes, I'll update my review. For now, I'm happy with Perixx.

I like the feel of the keys. Touch-typing is easy. Nice travel distance, key size, and feedback when pressed. Good: backlighting. There are four lit settings, and 'off' There's plenty of cable to reach between my mac and where I type. There's a slight lift so that they keyboard doesn't lay completely flat on a table. It also has four non-skid bumpers for when you work on a smooth surface such as glass. Don't like: The brightness keys don't work for my external monitor screen. The Mac Mini doesn't have a built-in monitor. The volume keys don't work for the external monitor's speaker, either. Like: The mute and volume keys do actually work for a) the Mac Mini builtin speakers b) whatever is plugged into the Mini's 3.5m headphone jack and c) Bluetooth speakers I'm using a mac Mini running MacOS 14.5 Sonoma. Like: Spotlight and toggle Desktop buttons work.

For both general usage, portability and price, this is the best wireless backlit keyboard available, that is anywhere that I've looked, including Logitech and all the other popular keyboard manufacturers, but because it holds a charge for days AND it functions with no lag just as well as any a wired keyboard I've used--this is because of its included 2.4ghz usb dongle--and it fully functions both wirelessly and while connected to its USB connected charger. My description so far is enough, I believe, for anyone wanting these features to consider this keyboard, but there are more pros ahead and only one slight con. Most current Perixx keyboards use scissor keys (the type used in nearly all laptop computers--the type I prefer), but I believe Perixx now also sells the same 732B-style keyboard with mechanical keys too, and the keyboard has no noticeable lag within several feet of its receiver, but at greater distances (i.e., for use on a couch over 10 feet away) it's still very low-lag and still excellent! Heres the one possible slight con when using this keyboard on your lap: you might want a wrist-rest. When using a any wireless keyboard on your lap an wrist-rest attached to the keyboard raises the keyboards keys up a few inches above your lap so your hands have extra space to reach for the keys. This is helpful if youre a fast typist, but for on-your-lap usage most people arent using a keyboard to type much at all and so this keyboard is still fairly easy to use on your lap without a wrist-rest. Heres what I made (see photo) for less than $1 to add a wrist-rest to the 732B--because sometimes I'll type for hours with this keyboard on my lap. I duck-taped a small rectangle of fiberboard to the back of the keyboard and attached a couple of plastic glass retaining clips to itif you use strong duct-tape to attach the board to the back of the keyboard it will hold for years and also still be fairly easy to remove if so desired. I type a LOT and so I was a decades-long consumer of Logitech keyboards because of their quality & design, but for every reason I know of Perixx tops them and so Perixx has stolen me as a customer. For example, this Perixx 732B is smaller, much lighter, uses the same type of scissor-keys as Logitech and so is basically as just as durable, has the same adjustable backlighting and more, and thats at 1/3rd the price. I almost forgot: the key caps on the 732B are sculpted too (very comfortable & improves accuracy) ...I've never actually loved a keyboard before, but this one comes close! Im buying a second one.
