Pinewood Pro Derby Car Wheel Bore Polishing Kit with Novus Plastic Polish #2...

We were very hopeful that these would make a big difference in how fast my sons pinewood derby went. We tested his car with just the polished axles and wheels and then again after doing this and there really wasn't any change. In the end he took second place in his event so the combination of stuff we did worked.

Great for what it is. Just needs more cotton swabs as they are kind of a specialty type swab. You go through them pretty quickly when doing multiple cars in a family.

I have 3 boys and all of them have been involved with Cub Scouts from the beginning to WEBLOS II, and so I have helped my sons build numerous pinewood derby cars over the years. This being our last year of having a son in Cub Scouts (he will turn into a Boy Scout soon, ergo the latter dont have pinewood derby competitions) we decided to change our method of building the pinewood derby cars and to buy this pinewood derby wheel bore polishing kit. My sons and I have always used only the standard pinewood derby kit and in the past we would spend about 15 minutes per standard pinewood derby nail (i.e., the axle the wheels ride on) and take the burrs off with a fine file and standard nails mounted in a drill and then use various grains of sandpaper ended with super fine 800 grit to create a super smooth, reduced friction axel. This year we thought we would try out this pinewood derby wheel bore kit, but alas, while we followed the instructions to the letter, both the written ones as well as this firms YouTube video, our speeds went down compared to the past (and we keep the same car shape, the weight was always carefully maxed out to 5 oz and the weight were primarily 7/8 in front of the rear axle, etc.). Our car this year, using this pinewood derby wheel bore kit actually went down (became worse) compared to our normal prior years pinewood derby cars. Since this was the only thing we changed insofar as our builds were concerned, we can only conclude that this bore kit is a waste of $$$ and that better results can be had by simply using quality graphite in the wheel bores and that you can save yourself both $$$ and time by bypassing the purchase of this product.

This, along with other prep, helped me win 1st place for speed and time (by a large amount) for every heat and overall Championship. My car never stopped in the shutdown area where all of the other cars stopped. I had to attempt to catch my car in mid air after it blew through the shutdown area. All races were won by 2 - 4 car lengths.
