it actually works pretty well

It shipped and arrived quickly. The box and the instructions that it came in was for a power charger, not for this seam sewing guide. My wife had to go online to get the instructions. Otherwise, it would have gotten an extra star. The guide uses magnet, very strong magnet, at the bottom so that it stays put. The magnet is cushioned with a thin rubber like material around the edges to avoid scratching the sewing machine. Once the guide is in place, it stays put pretty well. But it is also very difficult to adjust it because the magnet is so very strong, but not impossible. Quite a bit of finger muscle is required. Hope this helps.

Nice and Secure

As noted in the companys description of this seam gauge, it uses a nice, large magnet (nearly as large as the gauge) to secure it to the sewing machine base. Make sure the plate of your machine is metal. I tried the gauge on several brands of machines and it worked well on most all of them. The only one that presented any problem, though minimal, was my Brother machine. Much of the gray metal around the plate turned out to be gray plastic. The gauge held but could be knocked off the 1/4th inch line fairly easily. My Viking, Kenmore, and Singer machines worked perfectly, having adequate metal to secure the gauge exceptionally well. As an example, I included a picture of the backside of a quilt block to show how perfectly the gauge allowed me to make quarter inch seams. It took the guesswork out of sewing seams using the lines on the machine plate. It increases accuracy, enabling my seams to line up perfectly. I also use the gauge for making doll clothes and putting hems in clothing. This gauge is very versatile, and I recommend it to others.
