These have great ink, a nice hand feel... We're just not exactly sure what surface they perform best on

I got these for work since I needed some more variety in colors for my whiteboard, but on the box it said that it is not suitable for dry erase boards. It's very strange to have the items labeled as such, if that's not exactly the intended purpose. It still works and I am able to use it for some other purposes, but not exactly the way I wanted to use it. Since it's washable with water, it's fine--but a bit confused with the labeling.

According to the description, these are "wet erase" markers. It says they're not "professional whiteboard markers" but you *can* use them for white boards? I assume they're for non-porous surfaces like glass...or white boards... I can see a use case for "semi-permanent" whiteboard markers: If you're writing class notes that need to stay up for a while, you don't want an accidental brush of someone's sleeve to obliterate your work. I could see this being useful if you could write and after a short time it dries and survives the whiteboard eraser until you wipe it off with a wet cloth. So these are nice fine-point markers that click and retract like a ball-point pen. These are good for small notes at handwriting size, but at classroom distance you'd want a bigger chisel tip for visibility. I tested writing on two white boards, my fridge, and my patio door. I allowed the ink 10 minutes to dry Unfortunately on every surface I was able to smudge the ink with my finger. Maybe this would work if left for an hour or more - I will report back if leaving a longer time makes it smudge-proof. The ink did remain if I wiped with a dry paper towel, but the writing was smudged beyond legibility. Wet paper towel took it right off and that's good - I am the person who once filled an entire whiteboard at work without realizing I was actually using a SHARPIE which will come off after an hour of furious scrubbing with alcohol, so these are definitely non-destructive and non-staining in the short-term. I noticed after ten minutes the ink was "feathering" in the invisible white board scratches unlike dry erase markers which dry within a few seconds. Even on glass after over 10 minutes, I could smudge out the words with my finger but not clear the ink completely. These are nice pens, but don't have any advantage over dry-erase markers and need a wet cloth or paper towel to completely clean up. They do write nicely on paper, so maybe these are better as the markers you give your kids... EDIT: I realized after writing this review I still had green ink from these markers on my hand and it is *not washing off* easily, with water or soap. I marked on my hand again to make sure it was these markers. It's fading slowly after two washes, but that's not what I'd define as "washable." I've reduced my rating to one star since these markers primary selling point is "washable" but if removing the ink from skin requires alcohol or bleach, they are not really "washable." Not good for kids, not good for white boards.
