Update: After several days of use, I had to return this long-neck lighter. I really like the heft and feel of the lighter, but it turns out it will not light unless the flame is adjusted to a mid-size burn level. It can be adjusted slightly smaller after it lights and heats up, but the flame still goes out before it gets to a small size that is suitable for lighting candles or melting the hand-held, cut-off ends of nylon lanyards or small ropes. It would be excellent for lighting BBQs or wood stoves, but it is not suitable for fine work that requires a small flame. Original Post: I just used this long-neck butane lighter for the first time today, so this is only a short-term review. It filled fine, holding it vertically upside down and purging any leftover air pressure in the tank before filling. There is no fill-level window, and the tank only holds 1.5 grams of butane fuel. I have an accurate gram scale, but measuring only a 1.5 gram difference in weight is tough to assess, so I will probably fill it frequently rather than waiting for the flame to go out while I am using it. The lighter has heft to it and appears sturdy and well made. It started the first time, and every time after that, so I am happy with the initial performance of the ignition system. The flame is very adjustable; I find a 1/8th open setting gives a good, small, flame for lighting candles and burning the cut-off ends of small nylon ropes. I bought this long-neck lighter because the extra neck length should be helpful getting the flame down into a BBQ grill or into a burning pile in my back yard. I also have a wood stove, and the long neck should help reaching into the stove when I light a fire.

This torch is terrific for lighting your candles. It is far better than using matches or other candle lighters. I wish I would have known about this torch sooner. If needed, this will be the only other candle lighter I would buy in the future.

The instruction on fueling is insufficient. The lighter worked well after I attempted to figure out the proper way to fuel it, which I still am not sure if it was fueled correctly. There is no window to see how much fuel has entered the lighter, and when you begin fueling it the gas spews out immediately all over your hands. For that reason you never know if the lighter is accepting fuel, or just spilling out during the process. With that said, apparently some gas did enter the lighter because it eventually began lighting. I'm going to keep it but I am not sure I would have purchased it after realzing the sketchy fueling process.

It rarely works. I have to light it with a lighter before using it to light my stove, etc. What's the point? I've tried adjusting the flow from min to max and lighting it throughout the entire range, but could not find a flow that consistently lit. I also pushed the trigger halfway down to first initiate flow, before clicking the sparking mechanism, this worked better, but still rarely works. I bought this because the store bought non-refillable ones are complete junk. This looked like it was well built, and it is, but not well designed. The only lighters, including the long neck version, that I've had good luck with is Bic's. I highly recommend NOT wasting your money on this and just find something made by Bic.
