I snagged this because I've always heard about this game but never owned it to try it out. It's a weird game - older so it doesn't have all the same type of design most board games use now. It's a great lesson in the smallest possible amount of stuff to make a board game work, LOL. It's a decent game, but unlikely you will be able to find people to play with or that even want to try it. This copy is great, it comes with nice pieces that feel good.

It's hard to believe this game was invented thousands of years ago and I've never heard of it. Much like chess, this has a play style that grows with you so you can have fun with it no matter how advanced you are...or are not. There are conflicting rules and guidelines for play, so find the ones you like and away you go!

My husband and I love playing this game! We weren't previously familiar with The Royal Game of Ur. It's similar to board games played today, such as Sorry/Trouble/Parcheesi. You can knock out the other players pieces as you race to get all your game pieces to the finish, but it's a much shorter board and thus less frustrating and a quicker game. The design of the cloth board, the dice and the game pieces make this game feel really traditional and cozy. I can imagine wanting to keep it at a cabin to play in front of the fireplace in the evening. It's also great to sit and play at the table while having coffee, since the board doesn't take up much space. The included travel pouch makes the game very portable, and even the game box isn't very large anyway. The game is easy to learn with the included instructions. There are four different instruction pamphlets in different languages (English, Spanish, French and German) that come with the game. They have a QR code on them. Currently that link goes to a page with PDF downloads for each language. It's the same as the instructions in the box. The page also says that an instructional video is coming soon. The instructions state ages 12+, whereas the box says ages 10+. My 10y daughter didn't have any problem understanding how to play, so ages 10+ is probably fine for most families. Overall, it's a fun and easy to learn game with a classic board game feel. It's one that we plan to keep playing for years to come!

This is a cool game. I did not know of this before purchasing. This game has been around a LOOOOOONG time, but this is the first time I've played it. Quick to learn for us adults and the kids, and easy to grab and play a quick game whether at home or traveling. A keeper.

This is a great little game. I love that it comes with a carrying bag and that the "board" is cloth. Its super portable, and super easy to learn. All the materials are good quality. We love quick strategy games with simple rules, and this hits the mark.
