These turned out so cute and were the perfect gift for our dog loving relative. All the gems were there with plenty left over.

I am new to diamond painting - in fact was not even sure what it was, until I purchased this cute dog coaster set to see exactly what it involved. It honestly is very simple to do, and would be a perfect craft for children - I am guessing ages 6 or 7 and up, as it really only requires good hand eye coordination and some carefulness to do, so the tiny "diamond drills" (or beads) do not end up all over the place. This kit comes with the 8 cute dog coasters that you see, a drill pen, glue, the diamond drills, cork backing, a small green tray used to pick up the diamonds while you are painting, and a metal coaster holder. It really has everything you need except for a good way to store the unused diamond drills once you cut open the different packages. I was lucky to have small jewelry zip top bags on hand that I used to store the different colors in. Without that, or some other empty containers, you would have a mess on your hands. To paint, you stick the tip of the drill pen in the glue, spread the color of the diamond drills needed in the small dish, shake carefully until the beads are facing the correct direction, then peel up a bit of the plastic covering on a coaster where you want to work, and using the pen, pick up a bead and place it in the marked spots on the coasters where it will stick - it is basically paint by number with beads. When you are done for the day, you recover the coaster with the plastic, unless you completed the coaster, in which case you discard the plastic for that coaster. Finally, you adhere the cork to back of the coaster and it is ready to be used. If a child has never done diamond painting before, coaster sized projects are perfect for a first attempt. It will keep them occupied and excited about how their artwork looks when they are done. As far as using them as coasters when they are completed, I have not done that as of yet, as I am not too sure if they got wet, how well they would really last. But it is a cute project when completed. I wish these came a bit smaller in size and two sided, as they would make cute Christmas ornaments hung on a tree. Definitely cute and colorful, I would purchase something similar again, as it is a relaxing hobby to do. If you know of a child who likes doing crafty sort of projects, they would love doing something like this, and it would make a great gift for them.

This is a review from a 6-yr old: First, it didnt come with any instructions. Ive done this kind of craft before so I knew what to do, but other kids might not know. The bags need to be re-sealable or you can make a big mess. Im not sure if theres enough wax for 10 cats. They need to send more trays with it, but its really, really fun so Id give it 5 stars if it werent for the other things. Adult observations: So far, shes only finished one cat, but it kept her busy after school for two days and she cant wait to finish the others. She talks about which cat shes giving to which person and why. I resolved the non-sealing bag problem by getting her a plastic bead box (shown in pic). She said it works great and neither of us need to worry about a big mess now. These coasters may work well for heated drinks, but theyre certainly not intended for cold, iced drinks that may make condensation. I think more than anything they should just be considered art. Theyre striking looking and sparkly, great babysitters, and something kids can be proud of making. Im going to attach a magnet to my gifted kitty and hang it on the fridge. I think theyre a good value at $14.99, but Id be willing to pay a dollar or two more if it came with a bead box. Or, better yet, I suggest the manufacturer lose the coaster stand they include, replace it with a bead box, and optional stick-on magnets/brackets for hanging, and stay with the $14.99 price tag.
