The kit was suppose to have 10 coasters. Only enough fabric for 9 . I also thought there would be a template with the pattern to be stitched. There was a drawing. Thimble is made for a child. Not worth the dollars spent. I hate to be negative but this was ment to be for a class and now I need to figure something else out.

I spend a lot of time reading and studying different needlework techniques. I have never done Sashiko as I haven't had the correct thread. When I saw the listing for this kit, even with the image of what was in the box I wasn't seeing everything clearly but I thought I would try it anyhow. So I got this kit and was a bit puzzled by it. This kit was supposed to make 10 coasters, but only included 2 of the non-woven inserts not the ten like the listing mentions. The kit included instructions that was missing a lot of information. Never having done sashiko before, I think I could have written better instructions. Thinking perhaps that I might have been mistaken, I did look up some sashiko video tutorials and found that, yes, I was correct. This kit included regular white embroidery floss instead of regular white (or colored) sashiko thread. Rather than give an erasable pen, it included just a pen refill. I guess if you don't have pen to put it into you have to write with this very skinny refill instead of it's pen. With extensive arthritis in my hands, I can't hold onto it. The instructions show using a compass to draw out the sashiko template. The picture itself didn't even make sense. Of course, there was no compass included. In the tutorial that I saw she used a compass only to draw the different arcs. The kit included some clear plastic clips which I have only ever seen when purchasing a shirt or other folded garment and the clips were being used to keep the folds in place. I assume that they were for for holding the fabric in place while sewing on it. I have never, in all the extensive studying I have done over the years, seen them being used for sewing in any capacity. While with this kit you could mimic sashiko, you would not really understand the details that you would need to do to become good at it or understand the fine techniques to make it look correct. I appreciate receiving this kit, but was disappointed in what was included and the instructions, such as not stating how many plies of thread to use when using embroidery floss instead of proper sashiko thread. I managed to thread the largest needle in the pack with 6 plys of the embroidery floss and managed to run it through the fabric for three stitches at once although it was difficult to pull those stitches through the fabric. In the video I saw, she was pulling through 10-15 stitches through the fabric at once. Perhaps I am weird but when I get a beginners kit of some type, I want the proper tools included along with the proper instructions. I do appreciate reciving this kit to attempt to learn how to do sashiko. Thank you.

Nice kit for beginner as it has good fabric, nice thread and almost everything you need for stitching. The directions are basic, if you are new to this type of embroidery watch some videos while you wait for your kit! My kit is missing the nonwoven fabric needed for the coasters, I have some but am working on contact seller to report issue. Also, an embroidery hoop is important to me to get the even stitches, so if you dont have one you might pick up 6 inch embroidery hoop Also, while you wait for your kit you need to round up a ball point pen that comes apart so you can change out the ink refill. The kit comes with refill, you supply the pen it goes in I think the kit is a good choice for someone who lacks basic sewing supplies and needs everything included to get started.
