This mulberry paper is not pure white. Natural reddish fibers were mixed in. Unfortunately, I need pure white.

I ordered this 100 sheet pack of Winsing 8.2x11.8 Mulberry Paper for Decoupage to try as a medium for cyanotype. I make a lot of cyanotype prints. Most of them are produced using a digital negative made from a digital image, but sometimes I make photograms from leaves, flowers, and other botanicals. Based on how this paper looks, I thought it might work well for these photograms. In order for a material to work well for cyanotype, it needs to have a few key characteristics. First, it needs to accept the water-based cyanotype emulsion evenly without excessive absorption or pooling. Second, it needs to not contain materials which would cause the unexposed cyanotype to begin turning blue even before exposure. Finally, it must be able to handle extended time in both plain and acidified water. This paper passed the first two tests quite well. I had no difficulty getting a smooth coating of cyanotype emulsion on the paper. It is about the same absorbency as the watercolor paper I typically use. It does not suffer from excessive curling or rippling as it dries. Once it was dry, the color was the lemon yellow that you typically see before exposing to UV light. The development/washing process is a bit more problematic. The paper does not dissolve in water the way some other thin papers I've used do, but it is extremely fragile when soaked. It takes a lot of practice to get the washed print out of the tray and onto a drying screen without tearing or folding it. I found that it was easiest to remove by placing a small drying screen under the paper as it floated on top of the water in the tray and then lifting it out. The paper had some rippling after drying, but I was able to get it flat with a quick once over with an iron. Because of the texture of this paper, it does not lend itself well to extremely detailed images, but it produces a beautiful image when used as a photogram.

The information in this listing is very accurate. I received a 100-sheet pack of mulberry paper in 5 different styles. This paper is of the variety suited to painting, printmaking, and decoupage. If you're looking for the ultra-thick and textured variety, or the extra-thin conservation papers, I'd look elsewhere. The attached photo shows a sample of each style against a black background to show opacity. Three of the papers have botanical elements mixed in. My pack included small green leaves, yellow flower petals, and small flowers in a rusty coral color. The mix-ins are lightly scattered across each page, at least in comparison to some other similar papers. Personally, I prefer this as it makes the paper more versatile. Plus, it's pre-cut for you! All in all, this is a pretty good deal.
