I am truly a beginner, as in this-is-my-first-yarn-beginner. I have been reading/ watching tutorials and trying to decide what to try first, knitting or crocheting. I settled on crocheting and had actually picked a different type of yarn but then I read to start off with the opposite of what I was planning and it made a lot of sense. (Basically the idea is it's helpful to practice/learn with lighter and thicker yarn so that you can see your stitches better.) When I found this, it looked like a really good fit. It's a medium weight like I was planning to use so I can use the same size hook and get used to it but it's smooth so the stitches are more defined. It's also similar in fiber content to what I was planning to use; it feels like a t-shirt and there is the slightest bit of stretch but not much. I chose the "off-white" so that I can see stitches better (as opposed to a darker color). The color is a true cream, white with a pale, buttery undertone. I will say, being new to all this I was surprised by the size of this. I have no way to gauge this stuff yet by the measurements and I have seen different shapes of yarn balls but I didn't realize they really came smaller than the "standard" size, I've only seen the bigger ones. I guess I should have noticed next to the crochet hook in the pictures but I did not make the connection. (I have included a picture so that you can see the color next to the white of the book and included a permanent marker for scale.) Speaking of the hook, I did not receive one? I am not sure I was supposed to but in the current listing (1/24), under the product description, there is a picture that says it includes a hook and a few markers. Mine did not, it only came with a booklet. It has 10 patterns for making little crochet practice projects and you can see some of them in the video as well as some of the beginner basic tutorials online that you access with a QR code; I haven't tried those. (I have included a picture of the 10 projects that came with my booklet circa Dec '23.) It also has a little key with crochet terms and a how to read a pattern breakdown, which I find very useful as I learn. I wrote the measurements on the physical packaging as it's not on the label and I think that will be helpful in the future. Others might want to do that as well. TL;DR I think this is good beginner yarn for getting the hang of stitches (and little character practice projects), especially if you choose one of the lighter colors. The listing information needs to be clarified (as to whether this comes with a crochet hook and 5 markers or if that picture was mistakenly included) to avoid confusion but overall I am enjoying learning with this yarn.
