Gramps lives with us... he is over ninety and spends half his day in the shop working on all kinds of projects from birdhouses to goat stands - there isn't anything he can't do. A few years ago he carved nearly fifty full nativity sets and went through a good amount of bits in the process. This is a nice set and I like the plastic case (not likely we will ever use the wood base). Fits the Dewalt and looks like it will fit most standard drills. Well made, sharp and tips are hardened so they should last a bit. Good assortment and as for quality gramps said they are "great".

This set includes 6 bits in a variety of sizes and a wood base in which to organize them. Normally, I wouldn't bother with the wood base and just keep them in the plastic case so they don't get lost, but my plastic case was broken upon arrival. It didn't close properly anymore, so I'll use the wood base instead. Since I work on a variety of materials such as metal, wood, concrete, stone and plastic, I am certain I can find the right burr to handle grinding, cutting, cleaning, engraving, polishing, or trimming. The burr fit well into my angle grinder and delivered very good results. Depending on the material you are using it on, the burrs may last a long time (softer materials like wood), or just a short time on very hard materials (like stone). I love the fact that they are carbide, which means they should last longer than traditional steel might. The overall quality of these bits is very good and I am very happy with them.

It comes in two plastic cases, which is strange to me, one for the bits themselves, and then that case fits in the bigger outer case, but also holds the wood block. The construction on these seems good, and despite the heads of the burrs being a bit on the smaller side, I think these would work fine for working with Aluminum and the like. I haven't tried it on something hard like cast iron, so I don't want to comment on how long they would last in a situation like that. Who is this best for? Well, you could likely use them forever if you carved wood or plastic. If you are porting your own aluminum cylinder heads, that would be great as well. In general, I think these would work great for a hobbyist. If you are a full time production shop, I think it would be more cost effective in the long run to buy a name brand set of burrs.

These work very well. I use them exclusively for metal. I used the ball-end burr to grind hardened tool steel -- it was the only tool that would do the job, and it made it look easy. Before trying this carbide burr, I had tried several other cutters and they struggled. I was prepared for the job to take hours. This burr knocked it out in minutes. I have been using carbide burrs like these for years. This set is on a par with the other good ones I have purchased in the past. (There was a time when I had to pay more than the price of this set just to get one good carbide burr.) I have no use for the wooden holder. Save the tree (or whatever it is made out of). That would also allow them to get rid of the 2nd plastic case, which I also see as just a waste. One case and the set of burrs is all I need, the rest is waste. But that's a minor issue because the burrs -- what really counts -- are good quality and they cut/grind well.
